ADS1271 and ADS1278 cascade

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1271, ADS1278, ADS1274

Hi,
I'm designing a 9 channels adquisition system, so my question is if it is possible to connect a ADS1278 and a ADS1271 in cascade, sharing control signals and DOUT(ADS1271) connected to DIN(ADS1278).

Format: Frame-Sync
Sampling frequency: 24Khz
fCLK : 12.288Mhz
fSCLK : 6.144Mhz

Best regards,
Pablo

  • Hi Pablo,

The cascade or daisy-chain feature in the ADS127x family is really intended to be used with the same device. ADS1274 can be cascaded with ADS1278 because these devices are identical with the exception of channel count. ADS1271, however, is slight different and would require extra special care to the timing / synchronization of the two devices. I can foresee this being very tedious and cumbersome. It probably can be done, but we have not done this ourselves in the past.

I imagine that you would prefer not to purchase extra channels (i.e. ADS1274 + ADS1278), but this may be a much simpler alternative in the end.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

I would like to thank you for your prompt response and assistance with my issue.
Timing signals between ADS1271 and ADS1278 seem to be quite similar, though.
However, I don't want to take the risk.
Alternatively, maybe I'll test it in the lab before making the design or connect the ADS1271 in another port.

    Best regards,
    Pablo
