Configure EVM of ADS1292R for 2 leads configuration for measuring ECG and respiration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292R, ADS1292RECG-FE

Hello,

We are designing 2 leads ECG patch for heart rate measurement and respiration measurement. We are placing this patch over chest of human body.

For that purpose we have only 2 leads for ECG as well as respiration. We don't have extra lead for RLD out also. We have to verify this is with EVM of ADS1292R.

Can you please let me know, how to configure the EVM board for measuring ECG as well as respiration using 2 lead configuration(for RLD out we have to use same electrodes).

Thanks and regards,

Vishal Algure

  • Vishal,

I'm moving your post to the correct forum.

  • I'm required to tell you that the ADS1292RECG-FE is intended for electrical evaluation of the features of the ADS1292R in a laboratory, simulation, or development environment, that the ADS1292RECG-FE is not intended for direct interface with a patient, patient diagnostics, or with a defibrillator, and that the ADS1292RECG-FE is intended for development purposes only and is not intended to be used as all or part of an end equipment application. I am not able to give you any advice about body testing.

What I can tell you, however, is that Figure 56 on page 58 of the ADS1292R datasheet provides a diagram of how to use a two lead configuration to measure both an ECG signal and take advantage of the respiration circuitry using two separate ADC channels. I would advise reading the entire Respiration section of the datasheet thoroughly before designing a system to measure respiration with the ADS1292R (beginning on page 56).

  • Hi Brian,

I agree with you that EVM board is not for patient diagnostics. But we don't have any simulator currently and we have to verify the EVM board for 2 lead configuration. Can you please tell me how to measure the ECG and respiration of human body using EVM.

We are getting ECG using 3 leads(LA, RA and RLD). But We are facing problem to measure respiration using standard lead configuration. When we connect the leads to body, EVM shows 60 to 65 respiration and i think it is incorrect.

I have configured the EVM for 2 lead configuration like shown in datasheet but it doesn't work. I have to verify this as i dont want to do second revision of my board.

So can you tell me how to configure the respiration and ECG using 2 lead configuration?

    Thanks and regards,

    Vishal

  • Hello Vishal,

I'm sorry, but I'm legally precluded from providing advice about how to use the EVM to measure human body signals.

Looking at the schematic for the EVM, it seems that if instead of having the left-leg lead connected to IN2P you had the left-arm lead connected to that channel, then you'd effectively have the configuration suggested in the datasheet for how to simultaneously acquire respiration signals and an ECG with only two leads. To connect the inputs as I've suggested, you'd just have to remove R85 and install R16. When you say you've configured the EVM for the two-lead approach, is that what you have done? If that is the case, then the problem may be in your register configuration.
