ADS1194 current consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1194, ADS1192

Dear All,

The ADS1194 consumes more current i.e. in the range 2mA to 2.5mA but datasheet says IAVDD is 1.3mA  for 3V VCC.

This is Bhairu from Cardiac Design Labs we are using ADS1194. We are aimed at maximum utilization of the battery so that our device run for 2-4 days.

Please provide more details on this in order to reduce the current consumption.

Regards,

Bhairu

  • Hello Bhairu,

The data listed in the electrical characteristics table for current consumption was determined after thorough device characterization so it should correspond to typical device performance. May I ask how you are measuring and what your settings are?

  • Hello Brian,

              Thank you, for your reply.

The schematic is shown as below.

The current consumption observed with different ADS module. is as per follows

    ADS Module Current consumption(mA)
    ADS1194 4.68
    ADS1192 1.243

We are interested in ADS front end solution with lower current consumption. ADS1192 datasheet says the current consumption is in terms of uA but we are reading a current consumption approximiately 1.243mA.

Please provide the details of current consumption of ADS1192 ASAP.

Here I am attaching the schematic of ADS1192.

Please, reply the details of expected ADS1192 current consumption  at the earliest.

    Regards,

    Bhairu

  • Hello Bhairu,

The datasheet specifications will be accurate for quiescent power since that number is given after a statistically significant number of devices were studied carefully over multiple manufacturing lots. I have a few items for your consideration:

    • Where on the board is current being measured and how is it being measured?
    • Are you certain that there is no other device or circuit being supplied after the point in the circuit in which you measure current?
    • The datasheet is specific in that it specifies this as "quiescent" power. Quiescent means the respective positive and negative channel inputs are shorted together. This will minimize PGA power consumption. Is this the case for your measurements?
    • The datasheet indicates that RLD is turned off for those power specifications. The specifications for the RLD indicate that it consumes 5 uA quiescently + whatever current it is sourcing. Is RLD powered on? If so, how much current is it sourcing?

Let me know if you have any more questions about how to measure the power for these devices.

    Regards,

    Brian
