ADS131E04 power sequencing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131E04

Hello,

I am designing with ADS131E04 and I found a possible issue with its power sequencing. I have to use a 5 V AVDD input and a 3.3 V DVDD input.

As the data sheet states that AVDD - DVDD should be in the -2.1 / 3.6 V range, I will violate this limit for a while whichever power line I turn on first: if I first turn on AVDD, then AVDD is 5 V and DVDD is 0 V, so their difference is 5 V; if I first turn on DVDD, then DVDD is 3.3 V and AVDD is 0 V, so AVDD - DVDD = -3.3 V.

It is also obviously not easy to turn them on together, as I have no assurance that they don't violate that range.

Is there something I missed about this issue? Which would be the best approach?

Thanks in advance,

Stefano Infante

  • Hey Stefano,

That line is an operating condition versus being an absolute maximum meaning that you should not operate the device in that range once it is turned on. There should be no issue with which supply activates first as long as the rest of the sequence is followed correctly in software.
