ADS1274: ads1274 FORMAT change duration

Part Number: ADS1274

Hey,

I wish to use ads1274 in SPI interface.

I have some questions about changing the FORMAT[2:0] bits during work:

- Is it possible? (Are these pins monitored during operation?)
- If so - In case of FORMAT change, what is the average number of clock cycles until the data is valid\settled at the output?

Best regards,

Avihay.

  • Hi Avihay,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our E2E Forum!

The FORMAT[2:0] pins should be configured at power-up and are not intended to be changed during the operation of the ADS1274/78. These pins determine both the interface and DOUT Mode.

The MODE[1:0] pins, however, are monitored continuously and can be changed during operation. Figure 72 and Table 10 detail the settled data timing relative to a change in the MODE[1:0] pins.

What was the reason you were looking to change the FORMAT[2:0] pins during operation?

    Best Regards,

  • Hey Ryan,

Since the SPI interface of the A/D is not standard (DIN, DOUT, SCLK, CS), I wanted to "keep the options open" for future change between the use of DOUT1 alone and DOUT1-DOUT4.

Thank you for the fast reply.

    Best regards,

    Avihay.

  • Hi Avihay,

In that case, I would recommend powering down the ADS1274, changing the FORMAT[2:0] settings, and powering up the device as you normally would.

    Best Regards,
