DAC1220EVM: Controlling from LabVIEW/NI-VISA

Part Number: DAC1220EVM

Hi,

I am new to using the DAC1220 EVM hence apologize if I have over-looked any obvious information.

I am looking to programmatically generate waveform from the DAC EVM using SPI and came across "DXP DAC exerciser program" which has the ability to add an EVM as an NI-VISA device.

Hence I was wondering if there is a way to instantiate & control it from LabVIEW.

If there are any existing examples or sample code and any documents pertaining to this it would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

  • Rohith,

Are you looking to control the DAC1220EVM with DXP? How do you want to control it and what do you want it to do?

Based on a previous post, the DAC1220 does work with DXP, however it is not shipped as part of an EVM-PDK which would include the MMB0. Unfortunately we do not sell the MMB0 separately.

If you are looking to do more with the programming, DXP was written with LabView, but I think the waveform generation is compiled from Code Composer Studio for the TMS320VC5509 DSP on the board. I believe that it could be controlled in whatever way you could want, but we couldn't support changes to that code.

  • Joseph,

    Thanks for your reply.

I undersand that with MMB0, the DAC can be controlled using DXP as a GUI

But what I have with me is just a DAC1220 EVM and I am using an external SPI command executor(something like USB2ANY) to control the DAC.

What I am looking to do is to generate a sine out of the DAC .

Is there a LabVIEW code that can help generate the necessary SPI sequence to my DAC EVM(without the MMB0) which I can use in my code ?

Please let me know if you are looking for any more details or if I am not clear enough where I can explain in detail.

    Best Regards,

    Rohith
