ADS127L01EVM: Rev B EVM start-up

Part Number: ADS127L01EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS127L01,

The current ADS127L01 EVM users guide does not sync with the Rev B EVM boards - the jumpers are not the same as depicted.

I tried to connect a new Rev B board to the DeltaSigma GUI / DVCPKG with the default (out of the box) jumper settings but could not get the HW to connect.

I get a HW not connected message in the bottom left corner of the GUI.

I'm using Windows 10 / 64 bit.

Please advise - is there a new users guide to show how to configure the jumpers? Is the a special USB driver for Windows 10 64 bit that is not I the std install?

  • Hi Steve,

Sorry for the delay, I'm currently on international travel. We are working to get the updated user guide online. I will send you a draft copy with all the changes in an email.

    Best regards,
  • I also just received a Rev. B ADS127L01EVM that the Delta-Sigma ADC evaluation software doesn't recognize.

FWIW, Windows 10 Device Manager does see the board as "Generic Bulk Device".  A draft document sent my way would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

The updated User Guide is now online. Be sure to download the latest Device Package files as well. Please let me know if you still need help getting the EVM up and running.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the notification, I do see many updates in sbau261b.pdf, the "Startup" section (2.3) seems to have remained the same though. The Device Package download doesn't seem to be updated, it is still "20 JAN 2017 (v0.4.3)" (from README), but I re-downloaded, uninstalled, and re-installed.

When I plug in the board, D2, D3, and D4 light up (green, red, green). The jumpers are all in their default configuration. In the windows device manager, the board shows up as "Other devices->Generic Bulk Device" when plugged in. There is no request for any driver installation. I then start the Delta-Sigma ADC eval software, and there is no recognition of the board.

Toggling reset causes D1 to light up (green) briefly, and the device manager to refresh, but no response from the Delta-Sigma software.

Any suggestions on what to do/try next?

    Thanks,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric,

The device package update was released on that date before the Rev B EVM was available, so you are all set. The changes applied to both versions anyway. :)

You can manually install the EVM drivers per the following:

    1. Right-click on “Generic Bulk Device,” select “Update Driver Software…"
    2. Browse to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\DSEvalSW\drivers.”
    3. Check “Include subfolders” and hit Next.

You should be prompted to install a driver for TivaWare Bulk Device. Once installed, the EVM should be recognized as "TivaWare Bulk Device - > Generic Bulk Device" in Device Manager and the EVM GUI will refresh to load the ADS127L01 register map.

Let me know if this works for you.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

I appreciate the hand holding on this.  This is what I see when I try that:

I might try a different computer/fresh install at this point.

    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Unfortunately - I do know what's causing this.

The TIVA drivers for the EVM are not signed appropriately for Windows 10. The error message you are seeing is from Windows' Driver Signature Enforcement. Until we get a driver that is appropriately signed, the only workaround I can offer is to temporarily disable Driver Signature Enforcement on your PC. Please see my reply to this thread on 10/31/16:

USB Bulk Driver for ADS127L01EVM on Windows 10 x64?

I wish I had a better solution for you. Please let me know if you are able to try this and get the EVM working.

*** UPDATE 10/12/17: The drivers have been updated and are appropriately signed to support Windows 10 ***
