ADS1298RECGFE-PDK: ads1298 EVM respiration inquiry

Part Number: ADS1298RECGFE-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298R, , ADS1298

Team,

My customer is testing respiration function with ADS1298R EVM and got some inquiry

Customer saw that ECG function is working properly but have inquiry about respiration test

Please let me have your answer

Setting

SW version : ADS1298RECGFE-PDK Version 1.1.1 Installation

Using 'ADS1298RECG-FE GUI software' customer saw ECG function is working well

Inquiries

1. Can customer see RESP tab waveform with install SW version?

 - If customer build their own system, customer should implement filter function with their ASIC(MCU, etc) ? or could see respiration function roughly without external filter

2. In ADS1298RECG-FE SW  manual, 3.4.5 Register Map(ADC Register) is from 0x00 to 0x19

But in SW, only could see 0x00~0x15 . Need to install another version SW or do not need to modify 0x16~0x19 ?

3. In 'Evaluation of the ADS1298R Respiration Function' customer follow the manual. But let me know how to set VREF as VREFP in 5.2.2 Software Configuration

4.In general, please let me know SW version or setting process that customer could see ADS1298R respiration function

Thank you

  • Hello Hayden,

    Thanks for supporting our ADS1298R!

From your question, it does not sound like the GUI is properly recognizing the EVM as an ADS1298R device. Can you please share a screen capture of the home tab after you connect the EVM and start the GUI? It should look similar to Figure 3 of the ADS1298RECGFE-PDK User Guide.

You can also confirm the GUI recognizes the correct device ID by checking register address 0x00 in the Register Map tab.

    Regarding your other questions:

    • The respiration waveform may be visable in the GUI without applying the additional low-pass filter. You can see the difference between Figure 37 and Figure 38, which compares a signal acquired from the on-board simulated RESP signal.
    • The RESP_MODx signal will automatically have an amplitude of VREFP - VREFN. I'm not sure why that instruction is included in the User Guide. It may be from an old procedure.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thanks for your reply

I have attached PPT file which have GUI capture files

Please let me know why customer could not see the respiration waveform and FW/GUI version customer should use

    Thank you

  • Hello Hayden,

Could you also please show the About tab and the pop-up window after selecting Help -> About. I want to confirm these two images as well.

I do see that the respiration register settings are available on slide 4. It may be that there is a bug which prevents you from seeing the whole register map table on slide 5.

On the respiration analysis tab, I see that you have the low-pass filter enabled and "2000" entered as "points to remove." The customer has only collected 1000 samples, so this is why there is no data present. Reduce the number of points to remove, or disable the low-pass filter completely.

    Best Regards,
  • Hi Ryan,

Please refer to attached PPT file

Do you mean that originally customer could see whole register (0x00~0x18) in tab 5, but there might be some error and could not see whole register?

Please let me know the EVM and GUI version customer could see respiration.

And could you confirm that ADS1298R could show respiration with proper HW design and SW setting with customer's own board?

Since customer want to display their application in November exhibition and will build their own board once TI could confirm it(Customer doubt that there is some issue with GUI/EVM and could not report respiration with their board)

About filter setting in respiration tab, customer did not change but leave as it is

Please refer to below attachment slide's comment

    1. Slide 2

    help --> About

    2. Slide 3

    About tab

    3. Slide 4

customer tested Low Pass Filter Enable/Disable  both but could not see respiration

Changed the filter order as well but did not work

LPF enable disable, changed Unsettled Points to Remove setting into 50, and changed amplitude -49 ~ 48 in graph display but none of work

    Statistic Data=Mean, Noise = 0.000Vp-p.

So customer consider respiration does not work at all

  • Hello Hayden,

The "About" tab matches the the most current version that I'm using. Also, I see the same error when selecting Help -> About (not very helpful, I know).

I believe the respiration tab still has a bug which prevents the data from displaying the first time. If you disable the low-pass filter, change the number of "unsettled points to remove" to 0, then hit Enter, you should see some data displayed. The x- and y-axis should also autoscale properly. Then, you may re-enable the low-pass filter and add "unsettled points to remove" to observe the effect.

Also, it appears that the only way to view the device register settings is to select File -> Save Configuration Settings. The complete register settings will be saved to a text file. I've copied mine as an example below:

  • Hi Ryan,

Customer adjust lpf, unsettled point remove and could see the respiration

    Thank for your support
