ADS1298RECGFE-PDK: Firmware not found. Retrying...DSP-Not Ready

Part Number: ADS1298RECGFE-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298ECGFE-PDK, ADS1298, ADS1299, ADS1298R

Support,

I recently purchased the Texas Instruments Development Kit ADS1298RECGFE-PDK Evaluation Module and have been having problems loading the software “ADS1298RECGFE-PDK Version 1.1.1 Installation” which I downloaded from product page.

I was also able to install “USBStyx Driver” successfully.

But in device manager its not showing. Its showing like this.

When I run the ADS129xECG-FE. I see the following messages -

Locating binary file.

Reading binary file.

USB Connection established

No firmware found...downloading

Download successful

DSP not ready ....retrying

Final message -

The firmware load has failed due to a timeout connection. Please reset the hardware

to continue loading the firmware.

And when I press reset nothing happened.

I am using windows 7 professional 64 bit system.

I would appreciate any help regarding the installation of the TI evaluation software.

Thanks for any help.

  • Hello Vivek,

Thank you for your post and sorry to hear about your struggles with our ADS1298ECGFE-PDK.

Can you try powering up the EVM with the ADS1298 software closed? Simply plug in the power and USB cables and observe the device enumeration in the Device Manager window. Without the ADS1298 software running, you should see the board enumerate as "MMB0 (NI-VISA)" under "NI-VISA USB Devices," just like you have shown above. Then, press and hold the /RESET button and verify that the Device Manager updates automatically and that the MMB0 no longer appears. Then, release the /RESET button and MMB0 should re-appear. These steps are just to ensure that the /RESET button is working properly and the boards are enumerating as expected.

Next, leave the EVM powered-on and start the ADS1298 evaluation software. You should not have to press the /RESET button again. The GUI should start up successfully and the EVM should now enumerate as "libusb-win32 devices --> USBStyx."

** Edited 03/20/18: customer was referring to ADS1298ECGFE-PDK. Same troubleshooting steps and results apply **

    Best Regards,

  • Thank you for your quick response.

But my board is ADS1298RECGFE .

Will ADS1299 evaluation software work/compatible in this board ?

  • Hi VIVEK,

I've got your email, and found my post for recall.

My last post was about "no firmware found" while downloading, and one of the device drivers was unsuccessful installed. That problem was solved by adjusting the driver path to its installing path. By the way, I do find that one of my computer works well, and another meet the problem that posted.

I haven't meet the same problem as your post mention, sorry that I'm not sure about how to fix your problem,

  • \

libusb-win32 devices was found successfully but USBStyx not found as shown in above figure.

  • Hi Vivek,

Sorry, I misread your post when I replied. Please use the ADS1298 EVM software from the ADS1298ECGFE-PDK product folder. I still expect the process and device enumeration to be the same.

    Best Regards,

  • I followed the procedure for ADS1298R PDK and installed ADS1298ECGFE-PDK Version 1.1.1 Installation but same problem.

  • Hi Vivek,

Are all jumpers on the MMB0 and ADS1298RECGFE daughterboard in their default position? Please review section 2.1 and 2.2 of the user guide (sbau181B).

There are a few things you can probe on the daughterboard to ensure the board and the ADC are functional. For starters, please probe the analog and digital supply voltages and the reference voltage, VREFP.

You can also probe the /DRDY pin with a scope and ensure the device is converting after power-up.

    Best Regards,

  • I have checked and found that everything is fine and working properly as you mentioned.

Please see my post and attached images once again carefully you would know what problem I am facing .

    I have MMB0 MODULAR EVM MOTHERBOARD REV D & ADS1298R ECGFE Rev B.

Please tell me the correct path of driver & firmware also how to install it correctly.

  • Hello Vivek,

Can you please try attaching your images again? They don't appear in your last reply.

It sounds like both boards are working fine as you verified. The only other idea I have at the moment is to try reinstalling the drivers separately. Can you try to install the MMB0 drivers again using this link: ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/ADCPro2/misc/drivers/?

When you install our EVM software and drivers, it may also help if you run the installer .EXE as an administrator.

    Best Regards,

  • Check the attachment once again.

  • I have also tried this ftp.ti.com/.../
for 64 bit system but did not work.

  • Hi Vivek,

I think you just need to force the device to update to the correct driver. When you see "libusb-win32 device --> MMB0 (NI-VISA)," please right click on "MMB0 (NI-VISA)" and select "Update Driver Software." Then select browse through your file system to the following folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS129xECG-FE\driver" and enable the "Include subfolders" checkbox.

The EVM must enumerate as "libusb-win32 device --> USBStyx" in order for the GUI to recognize it and communicate properly.

    Best Regards,
  • I have also tried this but didn't work. Same result.

  • Hello Ryan Andrews,

I tried to install the USBStyx forcefully by right click on "MMB0 NI-VISA"  and select "Update Driver Software" then browse to "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS129xECG-FE\driver" and enable the "Include subfolders" checkbox but no change happened.

But when I install by option "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" as shown below

and then choose the option "Have Disk" and browse to "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS129xECG-FE\lib_1298\Styx\usbstyx_drivers" and install "usbstyx.inf" file and when I checked device manager I found as shown in below figure

and when I run the ADS129xECG-FE , I found the same error

    No firmware found

Download failed ...reset the hardware as shown below

could you please tell me how to load firmware and what will be the path of firmware, which type of file(extension) firmware contains.

And when I again checked device manager and click "update driver" and choose option "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" as previous I found two option -

    1. By check the box "Show compatible Hardware" as shown below

    2. By uncheck the box "Show compatible Hardware" as shown below

so my doubt is that why USBStyx is under non compatible hardware.

Also look at firmware problem as mentioned above how to load firmware and what will be the path of firmware, which type of file(extension) firmware contains.

  • Hi Vivek,

The firmware is located under: C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS129xECG-FE\fw\ads1298revm-pdk.bin.

Can you please share the board number and BOM revision for the MMB0 and ADS1298R EVM daughter board that you have received? For reference, I'm using an MMB0 Rev. D with BOM Rev D and ADS1298R ECGFE Rev B.

Below are the driver details for USBStyx that you should see if the correct path was installed.

I'd like you to try uninstalling everything at this point. Please uninstall both the ADS1299 and ADS1298R EVM software. You'll find an uninstall executable under "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS129xECG-FE" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\ADS1299EEG-FE." Then, with the EVM disconnected from the PC, please reinstall the ADS1298R EVM software as an Administrator from the online product folder. Without running the software after installation, please plug in the daughter board to the MMB0 and connect both power and USB cables. Then press and release the /RESET button (S3). Check Device manager for the "MMB0 (NI-VISA)" under "NI-VISA USB Devices." Finally, run the ADS1298R EVM software.

I realize this has been on-going for some time now and I apologize for the inconvenience. Hopefully the steps above will lead us to understand the root cause or resolve the issue completely.

    Best Regards,

  • I have MMB0 Rev. D with BOM Rev E and ADS1298R ECGFE Rev B.

I followed your procedure as mentioned above buy uninstalling everything and install ADS1298 EVM software. I did without running the software after installation, plug in the daughter board to the MMB0 and connect both power and USB cables. Then I press and release the /RESET button (S3). I checked Device manager and found "MMB0 (NI-VISA)" under "NI-VISA USB Devices." Finally, run the ADS1298R EVM software.

    But still same problem -

    No firmware found

    DSP not ready ..... retrying

    and a message comes -

The firmware load has failed due to timeout condition.

Please reset the hardware to continue loading the firmware.

I reset the hardware by pressing the RESET button (S3) but nothing happened.

    A final message comes -

Connection and FW load failed !

Please check your connection /configuration and try again.

Again I am telling you that I am using

Windows 7 Profession 64 bit Service Pack 1

and runs the software it in three different system with same configuration.

    I am using 10 V & 500 ma A.C. adapter to power the MMB0 board.

Could you please tell me the path of your software ADS129xECG-FE installed and also which system type you are using 32 bit or 64 bit OS(Windows).

When I installed the software I don't get any path to select where to install it. It automatically installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)". I am using 64 bit OS.

Can we change the the path of installation and how ?

One more thing I noticed that in your software ADS1298RECGFE is showing like this -

While in my software it is showing ADS1x98/8RECG-FE like this -

So is there any difference in software.

Could you please provide me that software version.

  • Hi Vivek,

I noticed the same thing. It turns out that the GUI heading during start-up is "ADS1x98/8RECG-FE," but changes to "ADS1298RECG-FE" once the firmware is found and downloaded to the MMB0. I'm using exactly the same software version as you are.

You should not have to change the installation path at all.
