DAC60096EVM: Driver issue

Part Number: DAC60096EVM

I am trying to get the DAC60096EVM software to run.   The software perpetually connects in "DEMO MODE" .

Turning off "DEMO MODE"  from the pull down menu will make the software tell me that it's "HARDWARE CONNECTED" which isn't true at all.

The software will NOT communicate with the SDM-USB-DIG.

The SDM-USB-DIG drivers are installed correctly.  The Virtual COM port appears at COM3 without issue.

I'm able to talk to the device with a serial terminal however without protocol documentation this is little use.   It does however show that the device is CAPABLE  of working.

I am using Windows 10 latest build and patches as of 7/20/2018.

I have installed the software with administrator privileges AND without.

I have installed AND run the software with the firewall both enabled AND disabled.

I have installed AND  run the software with Windows defender both enabled AND  disabled.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers.

I have used the "signed drivers" downloaded from these forums.

I have powered the board with the +12VCC and -12VSS and it makes no difference.

The software shows absolutely NO errors it just silently fails returning all 0s on everything I attempt.   The lack of any error reporting or handling is extremely frustrating and I've wasted hours trying to troubleshoot this awful software completely blind.

  • John,

As this question came in a bit late on Friday, we'll be getting back to you on this coming Monday. Thanks.
  • John,

Can you provide a photo or otherwise description of the jumper configurations and external bench-top equipment connections for the EVM hardware?

Additionally - I apologize for the frustrating experience you have had with the tool to this point. Certainly not as intended. We are making strides to improve our EVM GUI / Platform experience. Hopefully we'll see less and less of this as time goes on. Many of these older tools were created by analog electrical engineers moonlighting as software engineers.

  • Hello John,

Just checking in on this thread again.
  • Hello John and/or future readers,

My best guess given the information at hand is that the GUI / SDM-USB-DIG have enumerated appropriately and are communicating, but potentially the DVDD input for the DAC is not configured appropriately through JP1, potentially not supplied externally. If the GUI appears to be communicating correctly but returning zeros, it may be due to the lack of DVDD rail allowing the digital core from the DAC to return communication to the SDM-USB-DIG.

If further inquiry is required please feel free to respond to this post. If no other activity is in this thread within 2 weeks the thread will lock, but you can click on "Ask a Related Question" to continue discussion with myself or someone on my team.

    Thanks.
