Attenuation from defibrillation protection should not be a problem when using high input impedance amplifiers. For example if the protection resistors are 10Kohm and the input impedance is 100Mohm the ratio is 10K/100M or 1/10K. So there would only be 1/10,000th reduction in signal amplitude. Defibrillator protection also involves using TVS diodes or neon lamps for clamping. These components leak very little current but they do have capacitance to be aware of. The HV input resistors and the capacitance of the TVS diodes create a filter pole. Generally the capacitance is very low creating a high frequency pole and this is still not an issue when monitoring low frequency ECG. For example if the input resistors are 10Kohm and the TVS diodes are 500pF they would create a pole = 2Pi x R x C = 6.28 x 10K x 500pF = 0.000031415 S = 31,830Hz. This pole is high enough to not cause any attentuation of the ECG signal.

As far as MRI monitoring; The wires in the ECG leads will conduct dangerous levels of current into the patient and have to be removed before the MRI procedure. There has been research into ECG monitoring during MRI procedures with some success in the pacemaker and AICD industry. But at this time I do not know of any external ECG monitors that can be used during an MRI scan. So even if the WiFi radio worked, the monitor cannot be used during MRI procedures.

Bill Burris

Sotera Wireless

http://www.soterawireless.com

Forum Post: RE: ADS1258 crosstalk issue

Hi Alfred,

Do you have any data you can share with me? I would like to understand the magnitude of the errors you're seeing.

There are many things I could recommend trying in your circuit. I emphasized my biggest concerns below:

Short resistors R49 and R51 and see how this affects the results. Note that the MUX output has some parasitic capacitance associated with it; plus this capacitance is in parallel with the op amp input capacitance. These parasitics, plus the 10kOhm resistors are creating a second RC filter in your signal path.

Capacitors C13, C14, and C15 are connected in a "Y" configuration. Is this connection being used to try and mitigate the common-mode capacitor mismatching (I can recommend a different way to reduce common-mode capacitor mismatching)? The common connection where C13,C14, and C15 meet is a floating node, with no DC path to discharge. This node could be building up charge and causing errors. Perhaps you can short C14 and see if this helps?

Short resistors R17 and R27 and see if this helps. Your "V1" and "V2" inputs are referenced to ground, however, these resistors are only pulling AIN 11 and AIN15 down towards ground. Shorting these resistors would make a better ground connection.

Are you seeing issues with measuring "V2"?

This input is very similar to "V1". The main difference I see is that you are always measuring "V1" before "V2"; however, the meaurement preceeding "V1" always changes. I would expect you are having the biggest error in cycle 3.

Best regards,
Chris

Forum Post: RE: ads1299 and msp code?

(Please visit the site to view this file)

Please Greg Hupp is that the installation of the ADS1299 is true for the acquisition of EEG signal? and how to convert the binary string (27 bytes " 3 byte and 8 channels") on the actual number of ADC24bit (SEGMA delta)?
thank you?

Forum Post: RE: Selecting ADC for my application

when I receive data from the ADS1299 it is in binary form.
I need to know how power consumption of ADS1299 changes as a function of both Amp's gain and Data Rate.

I could not find any information about it in the datasheet. Can anyone provide me any information on that?!

Regards,

-Mohammad
