THS8200 bar pattern 1080P@60

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS8200, TVP7002

Hi,

We are using THS8200 in our custom board (Processor is Ti8148 ). We want to display a color bar pattern of 1080P. We have gone through the data sheet

and tried different resolution settings, but it didn't work. We have also take some reference from the link:

e2e.ti.com/.../86677

But it still not working for us. Every time  we run the script display is showing message that "out of range".

Request you to provide us some suggestion to make this work properly.

Regards,

Devang.

  • Devang,
Try using the THS8200 setup files which are part of the TVP7002 EVM setup kit available here...
    www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

Download the "TVP7002 + THS8200 EVM Kit Setup (Rev. A) " files then pick the correct configuration as per your system.

If your monitor says 'out of range' then the resultant H-sync or V-sync frequency is too high.

    BR,
    Steve
  • Hi Steve,

    Thanks for your reply.

We tried out you suggestion, but it still not working.

We tried out one more think. On our board, first we have tried to play a video of a particular resolution lets say 1024x768@60 through THS8200. Then we tried to configure the I2C registers as per provided in setup file to display bar patter at 1024x768@60. But after configuring the registers, display still showing message that "out of range". I dont understand when it can play a video of 1024x768@60 , why it cant display a bar patter of same resolution ?
  • Make sure the pixel clock being provided to the THS8200 is correct.

This sounds like your video source (8148) is not providing the correct timings.

Both the processor and the THS8200 need to be configured correctly.
  • Hi Steve,

We have done some progress. This time all clocks are correct. Now we are able to display a wrong color bar pattern. The color bar pattern we got contains only yellow (very narrow width let say X), green (width = 3X), red (width =3X), black (width aroud 4-5 X).

What we have to do to get proper color bar pattern ?
  • How is the THS connected to your processor? Make sure the output format of the processor matches the configured format of the THS.

i.e. is the data bus width correct (16 bits vs 24 bits). Is the color format correct (RGB vs YUV)

Is the display connection correct, i.e. THS RGB out to monitor RGB in, THS YCbCr out to monitor YCbCr input.

This sounds like a color format miss-configuration somewhere.
