Is DDC mandatory for LVDS to HDMI data conversion? Also, what is the protocol for DDC?

DDC is simply I2C.

I suggest you start with Google since there is a LOT of information on DDC there :)

I think you are confusing DDC with HDCP.

HDCP is video encryption, DDC is Display Data Channel and carries information about monitor display capabilities.

What are you actually trying to do?
