Does THS8200-EP support STANAG 3350 B?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS8200-EP, THS8200

Hello,

I need to convert an RGBHV signal coming from a personal computer to STANAG 3350 B format.

Now I know:

1.That STANAG 3350 Class B has 625 lines at 25 frames/sec and 50 fields/sec-- timing that corresponds to commercial PAL

2.That converting RGBHV to STANAG B would require scaling, colour space conversion, frame rate conversion and sync insertion on green signal.

3.THS8200-EP has a colour space converter, a timing generator and a clip scale multiplier and that it supports all formats.

My questions are:

1. Will THS8200-EP be able to convert an RGBHV to STANAG 3350 B (even though it ain't a standard)?

2. If not, can anybody recommend me another chip that could help me do the same?

Thanks in advance!

  • Unfortunately the THS8200 does not do scaling, progressive to interlaced or frame rate conversion. You should really only consider it as a digital to analog converter with color space conversion capabilities with respect to your application. The clip/scale/multiply is a per pixel operation (i.e. brightness, contrast, dynamic range operation) and not a spatial resolution operation.

If you need progressive to interlaced conversion, scaling or frame rate conversion then you will need to use a true video processor.

Something in the DaVinci family might work but you would need to determine exactly which device best suits your needs, along with any support devices, which might actually include the THS8200 depending on which processor you choose.

  • I'll look into the DaVinci family.

Also could you tell me if there is an encoder for STANAG 3350 B output?
  • Unfortunately I don't know any specifics about this standard so can't comment much.

I would doubt there is out of the box support though if it is substantially different to PAL/NTSC.
