0x7C`

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5150AM1, TVP5150

I have inherited an I2c startup sequence for the TVP5150AM1

The first write is a write to 0x7F of 0x00.  This is the Patch Code execute and by datasheet is not recommended during normal operation.

The only comment in the code is //Super ninja startup register per TI data sheet.

Thoughts anyone.  We have an occassional lockup of the TVP5150 and I was wondering.

  • Geoffrey,

See attached patch download app note.

  • Thanks James.  I see the patch download guidelines.  What I have are old and new datasheets.  The older (2006) says to write to 0x7C during a normal startup sequence.  This tidbit is included in the RESET/POWERDOWN section.  In the newer datasheet (2010), the RESET/POWERDOWN section no longer mentions this and the  register sections specifically states not to write to 0x7C normally.

With all this talk of patching, where are the patches and the errata they fix?  We have never patched a TVP5150AM1.  Should we?

What I am really looking for is a bug that says the TVP5150am1 can lockup the I2C bus.  I thought this 5 years ago and didn't get confirmation from TI support.  Now I have inherited a design that I have done extensive changes to improve robustness, and I find I am back at the same thing.  It looks as though the TVP5150AM1 can on occasion lockup the bus.

Matter a fact, there is a comment in the existing code of experiencing some problem to this fact.

I am just hunting and pecking.

  • Hello Geoffrey,

I looked through our release notes and don't find any thing about the I2C register 0x7C.  Could you send me that release note?

The new release note and data sheet are most up to date, so please use them instead.  Our latest patch for TVP5150AM1 is v04.8CAA.  You can download it from this link: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/dsps_swops_houston/ANALOG_VIDEO/Analog_Video_Decoder_Versions.htm.  I look through the errata and release note of the TVP5150AM1 and found no issue with I2C lock up, but we highly recommend customer use the patch to avoid many common bugs in the ROM.

Please let me know if you have any other question or problem with the patch.

    Regards,

    Viet
