Using C6713 DSK(CCS v3.1) with CCS v3.3

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO
when I try to build model in Simulink for the C6713DSK board it gives the error below.

Error using ==> LinkCCS at 28

Error while connecting to Code Composer Studio(tm):

Error using ==> cu_compareAndWarnCCSVersions at 53

This version of the Embedded IDE Link CC does not support your
version of Code Composer Studio(TM) IDE.
The Code Composer Studio(TM) version supported in this release is 3.3.
Refer to the Embedded IDE Link CC data sheet
for more information on product requirements.

My DSK c6713 came with CCS v3.1. I have got the CCS v3.3 with me as well.
Can I install both or do I have to uninstall v3.1 before installing v3.3?
If I have to uninstall v3.1 can I still use the flash burn 2.8, drivers and target
content which came along with the board?
Thanks,
Shash
  • Hi Shashika,

you should for sure be able to install 3.3 alongside 3.1 in a different directory.   This might make your second question answered as well.  So I would recommend keeping your current setup and installing 3.3 in a different directory.

    Hope this helps clarify.

  • Hi Lisa,

    Thanks...

I did that and it installed properly. But when I tried the setup CCSv3.3 it doesn't have my DSK c6713.

    so I couldn't select a target.

Is there any C6713 drivers and target contents for CCS3.3 ?

I tried every where and couldn't find any.

    Please help...

    Thanks,

    Shash

  • Hi Shash,

The DSK6713 emulator configuration is provided in the emulation support package from Spectrum Digital. Example code is provided in the DSK6713 page. Both links are at http://support.spectrumdigital.com

Also, please update CCS to the latest version. It will cause less trouble.

However, one area where we are  not sure is if your existing Matlab plug-in (designed for CCSv3.1) will work in 3.3. I recall there were major differences across versions.

    I hope this helps further.

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I Installed the emulation drivers from the link that you posted.
Is that necessary to install that as the board comes with on board drivers.

    And even after the installation CCS set up gives a pop up message  which says;

error reading one or more XML files:

    C:\CCstudio_v3.3\drivers|TargetDB\drivers|sdxds510cla.xml

    C:\CCstudio_v3.3\drivers|TargetDB\drivers|sdxds510usbcla.xml

    when i run CCS it gives a error message;

    Error initializing emulator

    I/O port=540

    Board name:C6713

    Cpu Name:CPU

As I'm doing the project using MATLAB in another post one of TI employees told me that CCS v4 or CCS v5 doesn't support MATLAB.

Can you please help me to solve these issues.

    Thanks,
    Shash.

  • Hi Shash,

you need to update CCSV3.3 to the latest version as I mentioned in my last post.  The latest version is the only version supporting the CLA drivers which is generating your error.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi LIsa,

Sorry I am a little confused. Are you asking me to use CCS latest version which would be Version 5.x?

I have version 5 installed and it is working fine when i tested the examples. But when I tried to use it with this same project (which has MATLAB) there were some errors. And I was being told  that it is not supported by MATLAB in MATHWORK Answers.

    http://mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/35917-why-does-simulink-generate-an-error-at-build-time-for-tms320c6713-board#answer_44967

    Thanks,
    Shash.

  • HI Shash,

yes the latest CCS release is v5.   However v5 may not have all the Matlab support you were using.  So if you also wish to continue with v3.3 in parallel you need to update the v3.3 installation to that last release 3.3 version which has support for your drivers.

    Hope this helps clarify.

    Best Regards,

    LIsa

  • Hi Lisa,

Yes I got what you were saying. Can you please let me know how I can update v3.3 to the latest. because I have got only one v3.3 cd which I got from the university.

    Thanks,

    Shash

  • Hi Shash,

if you have the full version (not the DSK version) you can get the update from the update advisor site (this should be accessable via the CCS Help menu).   If you have a DSK version, then unfortunately you are not eligible for this update and in this case may have to rely on Mathworks pulling in more and more CCS support for v5.

I hope this helps clarify and explains what your options are.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Thank you very much for your help. I managed to install drivers for v 3.3 and complete my project using v3.3.

    Thanks,

    Shash.

  • Hi Shash,

great glad to hear and thanks for the update.
