Linux CCS debug fails after upgrade to 5.3

After upgrading Linux CCS 5.2 to Version: 5.3.0.00090 I get the following error when trying to debug a Stellaris Launchpad project using the Stellaris In-Circuit Debug Interface.

The error is:

CORTEX_M4_0: Error initializing emulator: Error loading libdebug.so. Please make sure that the file exists (/opt/ti/ccsv5/ccs_base/DebugServer/drivers/libdebug.so)

The referenced file exists:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 425308 Aug 24 12:41 /opt/ti/ccsv5/ccs_base/DebugServer/drivers/libdebug.so

This worked with the previous release -- I verified that the ftdi library and libusb are present and in the proper location.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Steve

  • FWIW I am using Ubuntu 12.04

  • Hi Steve,

I am surprised that you managed to get the launchpad working.  However a couple things

    - can you please describe the update process you used?  (ie was this using Help->Check for updates)

Did you run the update as the same user with the same settings?  Ie if you installed as sudo do you launch and do all updates etc as sudo?

Would you be able to send us the log files?

If you're installing as a non-root user, it goes in ~/.installjammerinfo/. If you're root, it goes in /var/lib/installjammer/

You should see a ccsv5 folder.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

With 5.2 I just did a standard sudo install, then added the ftdi driver & symlink, installed libusb, and edited the ti udev rules to add the Stellaris Launchpad vendor/id.

After that it "just worked".  I should have left well enough alone!

    > can you please describe the update process you used

I first tried the Help->Check for updates method.  The update appeared to complete successfully, and everything worked except debugging.

Figuring something went wrong in the update process, I uninstalled CCS and did a fresh user install of CCS 5.3.  Same results -- everything worked except debugging.  Same symptom as my original post.

Just for the sake of completeness I once again uninstalled and did a fresh sudo install. Same results :-(

I am happy to send you the install logs.  Since there are several megabytes of logs, how would you like me to send them to you?

  • Hi Steve,

you can zip and send the ccsv5 folder either here in a post or offline via a friend/conversation request.  My ID is also a link which will facilitate that method.  I could certainly be mistaken about Linux support and will double check that with the product group as well.

    Please keep us informed.

    Lisa

  • Hi Steve,

have you seen this wiki?   I believe this is the only current method/documentation on the launchpad with linux.

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Stellaris_Launchpad_with_OpenOCD_and_Linux

I would recommend running through that wiki and should furhter issues arise the Stellaris forum may be better equiped to help.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
