CCS 5.5 JtagJet Emulator from Signum

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28034

Hello forum,

I had just installed a fresh CCS 5.5 on my WinXP Laptop (used the "online" file from the web) and my JtagJet worked after this. Then I did an update via CCS and now I get after launching the debug sesion the following message box ERROR: Ret JSC_RegisterWrite and the console says "C28xx: Error connecting to the target: Error 0x80000240/-113 Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,".

And yes, I used the latest Signum drivers from them.

Does anyone have an idea??

Best regard

Martin Izaak

  • Hi Martin,

what updates were run?  I am wondering whether the update corrupted something.

Have you reinstalled the drivers?   Some other thoughts

-> start fresh and don't do the updates to return to the working version

    -> try the v6 beta

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi,

this is the window during updating. i do not know if this is helpfully.

Now I am using the base installation without an update. My colleagues did not work with WinXP so let us see what they say about the new version.

    Best Regards,

    Martin

  • Hi Martin,

ok, glad you were able to revert back.   Unless you saw a problem with a specific update it is hard to tell what might have happened/what might have interfered or corrupted something.

    All the best with development,

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Just as a point of reference I ran into exactly the same situation... the base install of CCS5.5.0.00077 worked but once I ran the update it did not.

I talked Signum support and they were aware that "some people" have been having issues with CCS 5.5 but he really didn't seem to care too much. I didn't get the feeling that there were any plans whatsoever to investigate the issue.

  • Same exact problem after applying latest CCS 5 updates:

    - CCS5.5.0.00077 running on Windows XP

    - Signum JTAGJet

    - keep getting the "ERROR: Ret JSC_RegisterWrite" message and cannot connect :(

I noticed that  after the latest updates "C2000 Device Support" component is now gone, and instead I have "Builddefinitions2000_patch".

This is a serious problem, and definitely caused by a CCS update. I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall CCS at this point, because I'm not sure which particular update caused the issue.

This error seems to indicate the TI Emulators component that was updated (see the screenshot from the OP) is incompatible with this JTAG debugger.

Signum was acquired by IAR, therefore I can imagine they may not have a strong push to support XDS products that work with CCS (a competing IDE). In this case, the safest alternative is to wipe and reinstall CCSv5.5.

One alternative is to uninstall just the TI Emulators component and reinstall a previous release. Go to menu Help --> About --> Installation details, highlight the TI Emulators component and select the Uninstall button. Then, go to this page and follow the installation instructions for a previous release (I think CCSv5.5 comes with release 5.1 320.0).

From time to time we release updates to our emulation protocol stacks and we inform our partners to integrate the changes to their packages. However, ultimately it is up to the partners to perform this task.

    I apologize for the trouble,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

    Thank you for the follow-up.

I tried uninstalling TI Emulators and manually installing 5.1.320.0 as you suggested. However, that didn't fix the problem. I still get the same error:

I know this used to work before, with Signum adapter, and stopped working after a Code Composer update, just not sure which one. So I'd like to be able to "roll back" an update... but looks like I can't do it. I'll try reinstalling CCS 5.5.

Also, is "TI Emulators" component even being used when my project is configured to use Signum JTAG adapter? Any chance someone at TI can look into it? Or is it clearly a Signum issue?

  • Ended up uninstalling Code Composer and doing a fresh install with 5.5.0.00077 - fixed the problem.

I now have C2000 Device Support version 4.1.0.6 installed. "builddefinitions2000_patch" is not installed.

I suspect that updating to Device Support 4.1.0.7 and installing "builddefinitions2000_patch" breaks Signum JTAG.

  • Pavel,

Thank you for sending out the findings of your investigation. I find strange the Device support would cause any problems, but it has some flash algorithm files that could potentially be incompatible with the emulator pod.

In any case, if the current setup is working for you I would refrain from updating the components in your system.

  • Hi all.

    Any news about this topic?

I'm still having the same trouble (ERROR: Ret JSC_RegisterWrite + Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS) trying to connect with my JtagJet-C2000 to a board I developed using an XDS100 with TMS320F28034.

I've succesfully used the JtagJet for years with CCS3.3. Now i would need to use it for new projects with CCS5.5 or newer.

Someone in the previous posts suggested to try the new CCSv.6. Has someone been able to try this? I can't find how to make the CCS6 to list the Signum Emulator. The driver installer only recognizes the CCS5.5 installation.

I have no more ideas. Any suggestion about possible workaround would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance to all.
