CCS6.0.0.00190_linux failed installation on OpenSuse 13.1 - no startup script

Hi,

After installing CCSv6 on OpenSuse 13.1 (no dependency complaints) there is no valid startup script provided.

~/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio file has size of 0. The Code Composer Studio 6.0.0.desktop file contents is:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Version=0.9.4
Name=Code Composer Studio 6.0.0
Comment=Code Composer Studio 6.0.0
Icon=
Exec=/home/username/tmp/CCS6.0.0.00190_linux/>/home/username/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio
Terminal=false

so it points to an empty file. What shall be a content of ccstudio file?

Best Regards,

tml

  • Hi

    Could you zip up /home/uername/ti/ccsv6/installer_logs* and post them here? It looks like it failed to extract a zipped file during installation.

    thanks

    Danish

  • Sure, please find the attached.

    Checked on Ubuntu 12.04, it works OK.

    install_logs.tar.gz
  • I don't see any issues in the logs.  The ccstudio executable is the launcher application for CCS. It configures the environment before starting the application. I could send you a copy of this, but if this is zero bytes I wonder if there are other issues with the install. It might be best to delete your install and run the installer again.

  • Could you check to see if you have /home/tomek/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/downloads/ccs_launcher_linux_6.0.0.20140331.zip?

    Extract it using the command

    "unzip" -q -o -d "/home/tomek/ti/ccsv6" "/home/tomek/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/downloads/ccs_launcher_linux_6.0.0.20140331.zip"

    Thanks

    Danish

    I already did it twice. On Ubuntu 12.04 it went OK for the first time. I will try to copy Ubuntu's installation onto my openSuse one.

  • Sure, this directory is empty. Please find the full recursive listing of the installation point attached. I hope it helps :)

  • Very strange. You're saying the problem is easily reproducible on this distro but not the 12.04 you tried.  I don't know what would be causing this.

    Here's the zip file that contains the ccstudio executable. Could you extract this file and replace the zero byte executable?  Don't replace the ini file.

    7041.ccs_launcher_linux_6.0.0.20140331.zip

  • Hi,

    It works ok when I launched CCSv6 with the file you attached in the .zip file. However my current installation is copied fully from Ubuntu installation where the install process was ok. So initially there could be more files missing in openSuse installation (I attached the directory listing in the previous post).

    Best Regards,

    tml

  • Did you run the exe from the desktop shortcut initially? It looks like the shortcut redirected nothing into the executable, which is how it was 0 size. This is a theory, I'm trying to reproduce it here to confirm.

  • Hi,

     I have the same problem with ccs v6.01 in Linux Mint 17 Quiana (ubuntu 14.04LTS).

    The desktop file:

    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Version=0.9.4
    Name=Code Composer Studio 6.0.1
    Comment=Code Composer Studio 6.0.1
    Icon=
    Exec=/home/a_marzabal/Baixades/>/home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio
    Terminal=false

    I attach the logs and /home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/downloads is empty. 7002.install_logs.rar

    I attach the listing directories too. 0181.ccsv6_dir.list.rar

    Is there any solution for that? I don't have other SO for test.

  • Hi,

    There's a bug in the shortcut generation. Please change

    Exec=/home/a_marzabal/Baixades/>/home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio

    to

    Exec=/home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio

    Thanks

    Danish

  • thank you for the response but I think are more bugs than  link in desktop file.

    At installation end (the logs are in last post):

    a) there are not desktop shortcut (in desktop).

    b) there is a "Code Composer Studio 6.0.1.desktop" file. That contents in the las post.

    c) ~/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio file has size of 0

    Thank you

  • If the executable is 0 size, there's obviously a larger problem than the shortcut. Please zip up the contents of all ccsv6/install_logs* folders and post them here so I can take a look.

    Thanks

    Danish

  • Sure, Thank you, I can, but are the same as my Oct 28 2014 11:20 AM post.

    3730.install_logs.rar

    I may not be the attach. Please let me know if I do well

    Thanks

    Albert.

  • I'm sorry, I missed the attachment in the previous post.

    Albert, did you have a previous installation in the same folder? If so, there should be more install_logs<timestamp> folders there.

    If not, it looks like a cancelled installation has left over some files in the folder. Please delete the contents of /home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/ and re-install.

    Danish

  • Danish,

    you're right. There are two install_log diretories more, but I followed your advice and I installed again.

    Now I have desktop sortcut. I changed

    Exec=/home/a_marzabal/Baixades/>/home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio

    to

    Exec=/home/a_marzabal/ti/ccsv6/eclipse/ccstudio

    and now can start ccs.

    Thanks.

    Albert

  • Happy to hear you're up and running!

  • Hi Danish,

    I have two questions: first CCS CPU usage and the other over Matlab integration.

    1) I have Linux Mint in a 2 core CPU and when CCS v6 start the CPU load up to 100% (one of 2 cores) without nothing load in CCS (see image)

    The question is: is this normal? (and Can reduce?)

    2) The second question is over Matlab integration with CCS.

    There is one recent post that recomend CCS V3.3 with MatlabR2014 but I wan develop with delfino dual core (F28377D) and I not found download page for CCS v3.3 in TI site.

    The questions are:

    2.1) Is there any link for download CCS 3.3 for linux?

    2.2) Has CCS 3.3 support for F28377D?

    Tanks

    Albert.

  • Hi Albert,

    I would recommend starting a new thread so that the right people would be alerted and answer your questions.

    Danish

  • I have experienced that issue three or four times during the last year.  For some reason ccstudio becomes a 0-byte file.  This happened with three different machines: two sharing a locked license and one having a floating one.

    I have just come back from a trip and one of the machines (from which I had run CCS before leaving one week ago) now cannot start CCS because of that.  So far I had managed by replacing the file with a previous backup but this time the backup is too old and it does not work.

    It is infuriating to continue experiencing this problem.  TI should be able to provide a smooth experience for Linux users too.

    I hope I do not have to reinstall all (again).

    Pibe

  • SOLVED

    It turned out the machine that experience the problem had PPA and Backports repositories disabled from most recent update (14.10, I run Kubuntu) and that in turn made libgtk-x11-2.0-0 unavailable because of dependencies.  Once I enabled back those repos and thoroughly updated the machine I (re)install the packages mentioned in: , namely:

    sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libasound2:i386 libatk1.0-0:i386 libcairo2:i386 libcups2:i386 libdbus-glib-1-2:i386 libgconf-2-4:i386 libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:i386 libgtk-3-0:i386 libice6:i386 libncurses5:i386 libsm6:i386 liborbit2:i386 libudev1:i386 libusb-0.1-4:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libxt6:i386 libxtst6:i386 libgnomeui-0:i386 libusb-1.0-0-dev:i386 libcanberra-gtk-module:i386 gtk2-engines-murrine:i386

    Now, how is it that ccstudio becomes a 0-byte (and not eclipse) is the $1,000,000 question.  One thing is for sure: always keep a backup of your installation, or at least the ccstudio file.
