CCS 6.0.0.00190 forgets license file location after an update

Using CCS 6.0.0.00190 with a full license, with the license file in a non-default location, I have noticed that after performing an update to CCS that when re-started CCS drops back to either "Unlicensed"  or "Free License". To get back to a full license have to go to Help -> Code Composer Studio Licensing Information -> Manage -> Add and re-point to the location of the full license file.

The same issue has been seen under Linux and Windows.

This is a minor issue, since only happens after a CCS update, but is it correct that an update causes CCS to "forget" the location of the license file?

  • Thank you for reporting this Chester. CCS should not be forgetting the license location after an update. I have filed a bug report for this (SDSCM00050275).

  • Hello. I have this same issue with Code Composer V6. After an update, it "forgets" where the license is stored. I'm using a three seat floating license, off of a local license server. This is "standard", so the forgetting seems more related to something else than an non-standard directory location (because there is no directory location).

Also, I have another installation that forgets the license every time Code Composer is exited and restarted. Both of these are the same license service, and both run on Windows 7. The "update forgetter" runs on an older Windows 7 image, and the newer runs on a May 2014 image of Windows 7. I do not know how these two-year apart images might differ, as both of them are Windows Enterprise Edition and both are fully updated.

And yes, it isn't a "huge" problem ... just annoying.

  • After going round and round on this one for awhile, the TI folks and I discovered that it is possible to operate CCS V6 using a CCS V5 license file. The CCS V5 license file (a permanent license file) operates CCS V5 just fine, but CCS V5 will start and apparently run normally, and then intermittently disconnect from the license server.

What you need to do to fix this behavior is to contact TI and acquire an active maintenance agreement with them, or to update your license via some other means. For me, the annual license fee was enough. Now that I've updated the license file to CCS V6, everything is working reliably and without disconnecting, including emulation, debug, etc.

For me, then, I consider this issue closed.
