Installing CVS in CCSV6

I have been unable to get a CVS repository working on 3 different systems, which are running CCS V6.  One system, which had CCSV5 installed initially, and CCS V6 installed after, does have a CVS repository working.   Re-installing did not help. Installing CCSV5, then CCSV6 did not help.  I did not see any reference to this specific problem in CCS Forum.  I have been using CCS on these systems for about 6 months.

The system without CVS does NOT show "Eclipse CVS Client" under "Help>About > Installation Details",  The system with CVS working DOES show "ECLIPSE CVS Client" under "Help>About >Installation Details".

In CCS when selecting Window>Open Perspective>Other>Show All, CVS does NOT appear.  This is the common result on each system which does NOT have a CVS repository working.

I have NOT found a way to install a CVS plugin.  I did see a reference (somewhere) saying that CVS was a core part of Eclipse 4.3 and did not need to have a plugin installed.  I am not experienced with installing Eclipse plugins but that does not seem to be the real issue.

I have lots of existing projects including my present active project in CVS repository, so would prefer to not move to SVN or GIT at this time. I could revert to CCSV5 but do have a single system running CCSV6 with CVS working so reverting to V5 seems the wrong approach.

My "main development" computer running CCSV6 (without CVS working) is a Windows7 Professional OS, 64 bit, AMDFX-8350 8 core, 8gb ram.  The system with CCSV6 and CVS working is also WIn 7 Pro, 64 bit, AMD Phenom II X6.

Any advice will be appreciated,

Randy

  • Randy,

Sorry, it seems this thread went under the radar screen. Are you still experiencing this issue?

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Hi Rafael,

    Thanks for reply.

I never did resolve if or why CCS6 stopped working with CVS on my system.  But I also know that it is not an issue many would care about, so no apology needed.

If CCS6 is supposed to work with CVS then it would save me some time if I could get it working.  I am about 4 months into an active project, was using CCS5.5 and CVS.  Lots of history with/on the old CVS and other workers, so slow to change over to SVN or GIT. I switched to CCS6.0 and have simply have not taken the time to setup GIT on my server so (and am working without a repository for now  - a silly mode to be in ;-))

So, is CVS available in CCS6.o or should I just adapt to (which means install on my server, etc.) SVN or GIT ?

  • Randy,

CCSv6 has native support for CVS (I personally don't  use it, but I know some folks that do), therefore it may be simply a setup issue.

Just checking, did you take a look at the page below? If so, which step is failing for you?

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Source_control_with_CCS

I can try to see if I get access to a CVS repository to try out things, but people have been having success in using the page above.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

    Thanks for the help.

I reviewed the  link you provided which DOES describe/provide 3 different methods/ideas for using CVS in CCS6.0.   I had previously reviewed this information, tried without success, but have just re-tried.

Unfortunately, I did not make any progress.

The link you provided lists the following ideas:

First, CVS was available in CCS5.5 using Window>Open Perspective>Other>Show All.  When I try that in CCS6.0, GIT shows up but CVS does not show as it did in my CCS5.5 installs.  This is true in 3 different CCS6.0 installations. I have a few months of trouble free use of CVS in CCS5.5.  This is what I expected to use.

Second, I do not see any reference to CVS in HELP>Install New Software.

And last, I am trying without success so far, to install a CVS plugin from Eclipse Marketplace.  I think my Eclipse account may not be active and may be preventing me from downloading/installing but simply do not know how to install at this time.

  • Randy,

Interesting. I was almost sure that CCSv6 comes with CVS built-in but disabled by default.

After reading your reply I decided to give it a try.

Went to menu Window --> Preferences --> General --> Capabilities. Then marked the checkbox near "Team"

To double-check, I clicked on the Advanced button and saw that CVS is checked, as well as a Team Synchronizing Perspective

By doing that I was able to open the Team Synchronizing perspective, but not a CVS Repository perspective.

Given that I found this tutorial online straight from the Eclipse Kepler documentation, I am almost sure this is a bug in CCS. I will confirm with some folks around and check if that was intentional or not (sorry, I am not familiar with CVS).

    I apologize for the inconvenience,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

YES, I agree that the CCSv6 (should) come with CVS builtin but disabled by default.  But I experience exactly the result you see, no CVS Exploring perspective.

By the way I do not believe any CVS experience is useful / necessary to resolve this problem.  The issue is how to get the CVS Perspective available in CCSV6.

As an aside, I WAS able to install a SVN plugin to get an SVN Repository perspective available, but see no way to install a CVS plugin (which should not be necessary anyway).

    Your help is appreciated,

    Randy

  • Randy,

I am an idiot. CVS support is available in the CCS App center (I lost count of how many times I saw that icon but just did not compute).

Just go to CCS App Center (menu View --> CCS App center) and then search for CVS at the top bar.

    Sorry and hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

That works!  I am connected & using the repository.  I would not have thought of the App Center.

    Again, I appreciate your help,

    Randy
