CCS License query

hi,

we at our Company intend to buy CCS License and have few questions about it.

Our scenario is as follows.
- CCS5 / CCS6
- C2000 DSP
- Jtag-Jet Debugger
- Xds100 Debugger

1. I need to debug two different hardwares at the same time with Jtag-Jet, for that I am going to use either two machines or a single (which ever work fine).
2. I also do other projects where I don't need Jtag-jet just an XDS100 will do the job.

I thought of buying a Single FLoating or Node locked license and have few doubts to clear.
I intend to use CCS5(Jtag-jet don't work with CCS5.5 or higher) and CCS6.

Is it possible to run CCS5.x and CCS6 from same floating License and License server?

Is it possible to run CCS5.x and CCS6 from same node locked License?

Can I open multiple Instances of CCS (e.g CCS5.4 and CCS6) on same machine, at the same time, using single floating/node-locked license? In case not can I install CCS5.x with paid license and CCS6 with free license or vice versa?

On this page
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Licensing_-_CCSv6
it says that a SIngle user node locked license can be used on two machines at same time, can I do the same with floating license? (i-e same user logged-on two machines at same time running CCS utilizing just one license?)

Thanks and regards.

Nope this is not possible. CCS v5 license file is not compatible with  CCSv6.  Both versions require their independent licenses.

ie if you purchase 2 node-lock licenses for those particular nodes. license1 will only work with node1 and so on...

Floating means at a time license1 can be used with either node1 or node 2 or....

I hope the terms are clear; also refer:

Here's the difference between node locked and floating:

  • Hi ishwar

a v6 license will work for both versions.  So yes a single license server is fine.   Node locked is tied to a PC, floating is tied to the server.

Note if one will be always the xds100 free license then maybe one node locked license is best for you.

Also so note that you can open two instances of ccs.   However just be sure to get an idea of sorting which is which if you are mixing emulators.   The xds100 has a serial number For example.

    Best regards

  • Hi lisa,

in case of XDS100 I can run two Debuggers without any Problem from same machine, but in my case I have to run two Jtag-Jet Adapters at the same time and I tried all I could (e-g Serial numbers, different instances of ccs etc) but it simply don't work CCS just grabs any one of the available Jtag-Jet so I have to use two machines. For other projects the, development with XDS100, I don't need more than one debugger. Also Jtag-jet don't work with ccs5.5 and higher at my machine.

    Thanks and regards

  • Hi Ishwar,

have you tried doing it sequentialy?   The msp430 is the same, you can have two sessions, but can't distinguish the FETs.  So what do I do?

I open one session and connect to the FET with a debug session, then I open another ccs instance and connect the second target.

Hope this helps.  And by the way, a node locked license allows 2 MAC addresses to be registered.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi, Lisa

I also tried it sequentially but had no success, I noticed that when I first connect to Hardware1 and then try to connect to Hardware2 the driver always tries to connect to Hardware1 again (which is already connected) and I get an error. I also tried to distinguish the two probes with serial number (which works with xds100) but no success. The driver preferably tries to connect the device with which it connected last time.

I have no Idea why it doesn't work, also tried to contact to Manufacturer no support , finally gave-up.

Now decided to buy a node locked license and use two computers.

If you have a better Idea just let me know otherwise I consider this thread closed and answered.

    Thanks and regards

  • Hi all,

this is just an update of what I experienced. This just for info if in future someone needs it.

we bought a single node locked license (CCSV6), at the time of activation we were able to define two mac addresses. So I provided mac addresses of my two different machines. Later I downloaded the license file on both the machines and it works.

On one of the machines I also installed CCS5.4 and CCS6 parallel to each other, and it works. For both the installations I can point to the same common license file on my HDD and I can also run parallel sessions of CCS5 & CCS6.

  • Hi Ishwar,

ok, thanks for the update and all the best with development.

Glad to hear you're up and running.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
