license for code composer 3.3

We have a project which we started on an eZDSP28335 development card.  We used the code composer 3.3 that came with the card.  Now we are transferring it to our own card, which does not have the on-board emulator hardware like the eZDSP card.

We have a full license for 3.1, but that does not include drivers for the 28335 CPU.

We are in the midst of purchasing code composer 6.  However, because of the learning curve, I would rather stick with code composer 3.3.

I read on one forum entry that you can allow use of version 3.3 to those who purchase a new version.  How exactly is this done?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Mike,

Which emulator are you currently using or planning to use? As using XDS100v2 gives you a provision of FREE License for CCSv6.

I didn't get what you mean by above statement but yes you can import CCS v3.3 projects to CCS v6 directly.

  • Thanks for your reply.

The real problem is that I really want to use Code Composer 3.3, not CCS v6, because it is easy to use and familiar.  But without a license, it works only on the ezDSP development card, or maybe also with the XDS100 style emulators, which I do not have.

I need someone from TI to explain how I can get Code Composer 3.3 to work with the various XDS510, XDS560, BH510, etc emulators.  I understood that if I buy CCS v6, they will also include the license or whatever is needed to work with CCS v3.3 also.

If you do not see support for those emulators, I suspect you have a "kit" version of CCSv3.3 - basically a version of CCS that only supports the onboard emulation of the kit (ezDSP in your case). If you are using a copy of CCSv3.3 that came with the kit and you didn't specifically pay for a CCS license, then you have a kit version.

To get the full version, you will need a full license. Since we don't sell 3.3 licenses anymore, what we recommend is people get a CCSv6 license (which is cheaper than what we sold CCSv3.3 for anyway). That v6 license covers all versions of CCS (you can use your v6 license with v3 also). Once a v6 license has been purchased, we can provide a link where you can download a full v3 version.

    Thanks

  • Hi Michael,

CCSv6 is well worth at least trying  I think you will find it much better.  Having said that to elaborate on Gautams answer

-> yes we can give you a copy of v3.3 if you purchase a license

-> The xds100 emulator gives you full free access to ccs.  Other off board emulators require a license.

Also note that depending on your emulator of choice and OS .... the driver/support situation may make a version switch even more attractive

    I hope this helps clarify.

    Best regards,
    Lisa

  • Thank you Lisa and Ki-Soo,

    1) Yes, the v3.3 is a kit version.

    2) Checking around, I see we already did purchase the full ccs v5 , with a DVD and activation code.  Is this enough for me to get the copy of v 3.3?  How exactly do we arrange this?

    3) Agree that v6 is worth trying...only, it is so much different than versions 2 and 3 (which I am already very familiar with) that it will take too much time to learn at this particular moment...especially since the application is already in a very good state with ver 3.3 on the development card and all I really want is to transfer it to our prototype card.

Yup. A CCSv5 license will apply to all versions before it so that would work. If you can start a private conversation with me or Lisa and provide the activation code for it and e-mail address associated with the license, we can confirm and then give you v3.3.

This is fair. The move from v3 to a newer CCS version is tough because of how much the environment changed. And you don't want to change the tools midstream of an ongoing project. I would try v5 or 6 with a new project and stick with v3 for the existing one.

    Thanks

  • Thank you, this seems to be working. (Someone from TI has already sent me ver 3.3 and it is now installed and connecting to the board).
