Advertising of CCStudio "MSP430 with 16KB code size limit when using the TI compiler and MSP430 with no limit when using GCC" - But there is no GCC included in the distribution :-(

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, CONTROLSUITE, MSP430WARE

Hello,

TI advertises

http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/ccstudio.html

"Use CCS for free - By default when you install Code Composer Studio a free license will be enabled that supports working with development boards with an onboard debug interface, XDS100 class debug probes, MSP430 with 16KB code size limit when using the TI compiler and MSP430 with no limit when using GCC"

But there is no GCC included in the distribution of "CCStudio 6.0.1" :-(,

in opposite to the GCC for ARM targets.

So where to find the GCC for MSP430, and how to integrate it easily in the CCStudio IDE :-)?!

Sincerely

Rolf

  • Hello Rolf,

MSP430 GCC is not installed by default. You have to specify it in the installation wizard with first installing CCS or you can simply install it from the CCS App Center (View -> CCS App Center):

Note: I already have it installed so it says "Up to Date" in my screenshot.

    Thanks

    ki

  • Thanks lot,

for CCS 6 the problem is now solved.

The "CCS App Center" is new with CCS6, so was not available with CCS5, see

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CCSv6_Changes

"The App Center is a major change in CCSv6. The purpose of the CCS App Center is to make customers aware of additional software that is available and then help them obtain it. The reality is that customers need far more than just CCS to start meaningful development. Packages such as MSP430Ware, controlSUITE and TivaWare are essential to starting development and are all available via the App Center. Other packages like TI-RTOS, GCC for MSP430, Linux Development Tools and GUI Composer are also available"

So good-bye CCS5, or is most of  the contents ( GCC,..) available for CCS5.5 in other means, by simple download?

Can I download the "CCS App Center" software offers so that I can later distribute and manually install it,on another CCS6 / CCS5 without Internet access ?

    Sincerely

    Rolf
