About conditions of CCS and TI Libraries License

Guru 15510 points

Hi,

I have questions about CCS and library license which TI provided.

We are using following environment and libraries.

*CCSv5.4

*DSP/BIOS v5.42

*Chip Support Library(CSLv3)

*IQmath v2

*IMGLIB-2

*RapidIOMQT

Q1. About object file(executable file) which are built by CCS.

Is there any condition to redistribute this object file?

Is there any condition for commercial use?

Is there any condition for utilization area? Is there display obligation?

My understanding is that if CCS project includes the customer's software only,

there are no need to consider the condition at customer side. Is it correct?

Q2.

There are no OSS(Open Software) are linked to customer's program,

but does object which are built by CCS includes OSS automatically?

Q3.

If TI's library(CSL/IQmath/IMGLIB/RapidIOMQT) are linked statically to the object which are built by CCS,

would it be the target of export control?

best regards,

g.f.

The licenses for these items allow for redistribution and commercial use.  As far as utilization area do you mean the type of application they would be used in?  If so when they downloaded or purchased the items they would have gone through export control screening which does ask about the application type.

If the application only contains the items listed and the customers own code then they would have no issues with distribution.  However if they included any other code they would need to review the license for those items.

I believe all of the items listed are under commercial license.  Later versions of some of the items are under open source licenses.  It is best to have their legal team review the licenses themselves so that they are comfortable with them.  The only item that CCS would automatically pull into the program is the C runtime library which in that version of CCS is not open source.

They should really have their legal team look at this.  In general any software that is designed for devices that run at greater than 25MHz is subject to export control.

Please keep in mind that I am not a lawyer.  They really need to have their own lawyer review the licenses and their questions.
