XDS200 driver CCS6

The XDS200 driver seems very unreliable after the initial installation.

We have tried on 4 different PCs and 3 different XDS200 from Blackhawk (3 different enginneers!). On the newest PC (An Intel NUC) seems to run ok. On all the other PC'es the first time installation of CCS6 and XDS200 works fine. Afterwards the connection test fails and any programming impossible).

After a number of restarts and re-installation of the USB driver (\ccsv6\ccs_base\emulation\windows\xds2xx_drivers) it works a few times.

We use:

Windows 8.1 and CCS 6.0.1.00040

How can we get a stable function of this interface ?

A couple things I would try.

1) Make sure that the XDS200 is not plugged into a USB 3.0 port. A few people have reported problems with this, mostly on Linux though.
2) Update your emupack (driver software for the debug probes). Go to Help -> Check for Updates. Uncheck everything but the TI emupack. Proceed with the installation.
3) Now update the firmware on your xds200. Close CCS. Open a command prompt and go to /ccsv6/ccs_base/emulation/specdig/xds2xx Then run xds2xx_conf update xds2xxu 0 sd_xds200_firmware_v1006.bin
4) When that is done power cycle the xds200 by unplugging it for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.
5) Run xds2xx_conf get xds2xxu 0 This is to check that we can communicate with it ok.

Then see if that improves the stability.

After updating 'TI emulation' 2), i was looking for the path suggested 3), but the directory 'specdig' does not exist nor any files 'xds2xx_conf'.
What is missing ?

Hi,

It seems you did not install Spectrum Digital JTAG debugger support when installing CCS (it is disabled by default)

You can re-run the installer and tick the emulator support (section 3 of the CCSv6 Getting Started Guide) or go to menu Help --> Install New Software and then select Spectrum Digital emulation updates (check section 3 of the Updating CCSv6 page).

Lets file a defect to track getting that utility installed whenever XDS200 support is present as in this case the product was from Blackhawk and not spectrum.

Peter,

We are not aware of an instability issues. Can you please let us know the serial numbers of the USB200 units in question? You can email our support account directly if you don't want serial numbers listed in this post. From the SN we can tell what firmware resides on the unit.

We are closed now for Christmas holiday, but the serial numbers I can give you here for the Blackhawk XDS200:
TB50484, unstable
TB50485, unstable
TB50486, unstable
TB50347, seems stable with Intel NUC PC, win8.1
