CCS5 - How to use RTOS analyser

Hello everybody!

I simply need to use RTOS analyser to get some log_printf and check the CPU load.
However all the options are grayed! When I try to launch RTOS Object View, this message appears:
"Could not find required xdc plugins, verify xdc tools are installed".

Any idea? I'm using a XDS100v2 probe on CCS5.3

Arnaud,

The RTOS Analyzer support was updated/revamped a few years ago, and it may be that the version of CCS 5.3 you are using does not have complete support. I currently don't have 5.3 installed to check it, but I am confirm that RTOS Analyzer works well with CCS 5.5 and CCSv6.

If you are able to update to CCSv6 that would be my suggestion, failing which CCS 5.5 would be ok as well. If you are new to RTOS Analyzer, there is a training module here that should be helpful.

Do you think it is possible to install both CCS5.3 & CCS5.5?

I mean, I already have CCS4 AND CCS5.3 on my computer because some of my projects work only on CCS4. I had a lot of trouble when installing this second version. I'm tempted to try again with CCS5.5 but I prefer keep my working CCS5.3 in back up. What do you think about that?

Yes it is fine to install both CCS 5.3 and 5.5 on the same machine. Just be sure to install 5.5 to a different folder, (ie) if you have CCS 5.3 installed to c:\ti, choose a different main level folder for 5.5.

I however thought about another fact: neither can I use the RTA tools on CCS4 ! So is it really a version issue?

Here are some references for using RTA in CCSv4 with BIOS 5 and BIOS6 (not sure which version of BIOS you are using).

In CCS 5.5, if you are using BIOS5, then you should select the menu under Tools->RTOS Analyzer-> RTA (Legacy) to see RTA views for BIOS5. If you are using BIOS6, then you can select the main views under RTOS Analyzer. Also if you are using BIOS6, the link to the training module I sent earlier should help.

If you run into further issues or have further questions after trying out CCS 5.5, I would suggest starting a new thread in the TI-RTOS forum as that forum is monitored by folks that have more expertise specifically with BIOS and RTA tools.
