Hi everybody

I recently got a XDS100v3.0 from here. (I got the link from TI wiki for xds100).

The driver is successfully installed and I have the correct PID & VID but the device is not working with CCS6.1 .

When I click on its name in SmartRF, I get the following message:

"The selected device was not recognized.

Name of the device not defined in device_info.xml "XDS100 Ver3.0" "

I wonder if I miss some driver or the hardware is not working from beginning. I would appreciate any help.

I have read the documents but didn't find a solution to my problem.
I have XDS100v3 Chanel A & B in device manager so it seems that there is no problem with installation.

Hello Mohamad,
The SmartRF tool comes from the SimpleLink team, not CCS. What device are you using?

I am using CC2650. SmartRF works fine with my XDS110 and I can program my CC2650 with it.
But when it comes to XDS100, I get the error message in my first post. I have tried CCS with my XDS100 and it was not working either.

I'll update this thread here with my debugging adventures.... as (as always) TI staff has never answered my well documented bug reports.

As the error message states, device_info.xml (stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\Flash Programmer 2\config\xml) doesn't know the "XDS100 Ver 3.0" string

I managed to add the following lines and solved the problem:

<DeviceFamily type="eb" name="XDS">
<Device name="default" family="XDS">
<UsbController>XDS100V3-FTDI</UsbController>
<DeviceImage>smartrf06eb.png</DeviceImage>
</Device>
<Device name="XDS100 Ver 3.0" family="XDS">

</DeviceFamily>

but still couldn't get to the point where I could program my CC2650

I also found an excellent way to crash the app:

- click on "xds100 ver 3.0...."
- click on the "unknown" text
- get the error message
- right click on unknown, press connect.

So are you sure this is really an XDS100v3 debugger (and not an XDS100 or XDS100v2)?

Please check the following:

- VID/PID = 0403/A6D1

- Description text in device manager should say "TI XDS100v3 Channel A" and "TI XDS100v3 Channel B".

Do you have a screenshot from SmartRF Flash Programmer 2 where the device is listed?

How is the CC2650 device connected to the debugger?

Actually modifying the said xml file was enough to get smartrf flash programmer to program my CC2650 using an XDS100v3.

Interesting.

Seems like a modification to the description text in the driver or .inf file is causing this (we're expecting "XDS100v3" without spaces). We will investigate.

Do you get it to work in CCS?

Can you please do one thing: Download FT_Prog from www.ftdichip.com/.../Utilities.htm, www.ftdichip.com/.../FT_Prog_v3.0.56.245.zip and run the executable called FT_Prog.exe. On the menu, select Devices, then "Scan and Parse".

Can you please provide a screenshot? It will show the actual text description programmed on the FTDI device.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
I have changed the device_info.xml as you said and it seems that the problem is solved with programmer since i did not get that error message again.
Now, I try to program my sensorTag board using this programmer. I built a custom cable to change the 14pin Jtag connector to 10 pin suitable for SensorTag but it seems that there is some problem here. In SmartRF the part is still unknown and in CCS I get this error message:

The measured lengths of the JTAG IR and DR scan-paths are invalid.
This indicates that an error exists in the link-delay or scan-path.

The cables are less than 10cm and connected as below:
SensorTag Board <-> XDS100V3
Pin1 (VDD) <-> Pin5
Pin2 (TMS) <-> Pin1
Pin3 (GND) <-> Pin10 & Pin4
Pin4 (TCK) <-> Pin11
Pin6 (TDO) <-> Pin7
Pin8 (TDI) <-> Pin3
Pin10(nReset) <-> Pin2

I am using xds110 to do my work but it would be really revealing to make this xds100v3 work :)

Please take a look here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../JTAG_Connectors

You need to connect the nRESET on pin 10 on the 10-pin connector to nRESET (and NOT nTRST) on the "compact TI 20-pin" connector. Otherwise, it looks OK. Also remember to power the SensorTag from a battery. The XDS does not supply any voltage on the VTRef signal.

Thanks for the screenshot, Mathieu. It proves that the product description string is different from what we expect it to be. We will have to change our enumeration scheme in the SmartRF tools to support this alternative string.

I have the following pin map for my programmer: (from www.alibaba.com/.../Free-shipping-TI-DSP-emulator-XDS100V3_60145222003.html)

as you see there is no nRESET! I have checked and the pin map is similar to TMS320 from Olimex.

I did it now and I get this error message:

The controller has detected a cable break far-from itself.
The user must connect the cable/pod to the target.

I have monitored the nTRST and SRSTN voltage levels. when I press "Test Connection" there are two low pulses on nTRST with 1ms duration but SRSTN is constantly low. So the nTRST acts more like a Reset signal!

The nTRST is the JTAG Target Reset signal. CC26xx does not support the individaul JTAG reset signal, only the system reset.

You will get the "cable break" error message if the "DIS" signal is not tied to GND.

Hi Mohamad,

Sorry, my answer was unprecise. The TRST is the TEST reset signal, which is intended to reset the JTAG interface on the connected device(s). CC26xx does not have a TRST input signal.

SRST is the system reset, which should normally reset everything on the connected board, including the chip. So you should connect the CC26xx reset signal to the system reset signal (SRST) from the XDS.

I get the difference, but as i said there is no signal on SRST and I cant make the programmer work.
anyway, I give up on my xds100. I bought it from that chinese site because of the link in TI wiki page to that site. (the link is still there although it is broken now!) Please make sure about a component quality before recommending it.
