Updating View Contributions - Endless Loop (Again)

I am running CCS V6.1.3 on Windows 7.

I have found that after a few days of development in a given project, the system will suddenly start popping up an endless stream of windows saying it is Updating View Contributions.

There have been a few (two) complaints of this in the forums, but no good answer to how to eliminate this problem.

I have found that sometimes simply closing and restarting CCS fixes the problem temporarily, but it always comes back.

If I abandon the current project, start a brand-new project, then move my key files into the new project, then the problem goes away for a few days, sometimes for a whole week. But eventually it creeps back.

I was originally storing the projects in Dropbox, but tried a new project that wasn't in dropbox (wondering if there was some race conditions going on with the dropbox sync). However, this didn't seem to fix the problem either.

It seems like the project is somehow getting corrupted or a file is getting confused.

I have repeated this on two computers, both show the same problem.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Steve,

Would you be willing to share with us the project metadata files (.*project files in the root project folder) for one project that is currently demonstrating this issue?
Also can you give us a sense of the size of the project (how many source files etc), and are the source files in a local directory or under source control?

  • Probably not much point now - the system got so unstable that I had to uninstall CCS and reinstall it from scratch. That seems to have completely fixed the problem (for now).

It was a tiny project, just one file! Under 2kb!

Thank you for the update and glad that you are able to move forward after a reinstall. We would still like to figure out what caused the problem in the first place, so if you do encounter the issue again please let us know.

Also, just curious, after the CCS reinstall did you open the previous workspace with your existing project, or did you open a new clean workspace?

  • I did not start with a clean workspace.

I did verify that CCS was completely up-to-date prior to doing the uninstall.

I didn't do anything special during the uninstall (like wiping out old directories or anything... I just used the regular "uninstall" option in Windows).

Upon re-installing CCS, i just pointed it at the old workspace and it loaded it in no problem. Still working great.
