CCS/EK-TM4C1294XL: JTAG connector for U6

Part Number: EK-TM4C1294XL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEMU200-U, TMDSEMU110-U

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I'm looking for a cable to plug into the U6 connector on the EK-TM4C1294XL. Can you provide a part number?

Thanks,

Priya

  • Priya,

What do you intend to connect to this header or, more specifically, what type of connector the other end of the cable should have?

The reason of my question is that U6 is a JTAG connector that follows the ARM CortexM 10-pin standard. The other end of the cable should be connected to a JTAG debugger that can have a number of different connectors. For example, you have a XDS100v2 JTAG debugger with a TI 14-pin connector, you would need to find an adapter for this. Other JTAG Debug Probes such as the XDS110 (TMDSEMU110-U) or the XDS200 (TMDSEMU200-U) already ship with a suitable adapter to be connected to U6.

Regardless, page 28 of the EK-TM4C1294XL User's Guide contains a Samtec part number for the U6 header on board: Samtec SHF-105-01-S-D-SM or Don Connex Electronics C44-10BSA1-G.

You can then take this part number and perform a search on the manufacturer's website. The product page will most likely contain documentation that mentions the mating connector for this header.

For example, the Samtec product page has a link to the header's catalog page which mentions it is mated to FFSD or FFTP series of connectors. It is a similar scenario for the Don Connex. In the specific case of Samtec, it also sells cable assemblies at this page

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,
I couldn't find the C44-10BSA1-G connector any where. Is there a replacement part that will work?
I can find a cable that fits with it. There was no mating part for Samtec SHF-105-01-S-D-SM.
The JTAG connector on the custom board is a 10 pin Molex part with 2.54 mm pitch. The plan is to
solder the two JTAG cable ends so the EK can be used as a debugger (in addition to removing the
    needed resistors).

If there is a part number for the JTAG debug probe that comes with XDS110 or XDS200, I can buy that too.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Priya
  • Priya,

    >> I couldn't find the C44-10BSA1-G connector any where. Is there a replacement part that will work?

To find distributors that carry Don Connex products you should contact them directly via their website - I am not aware of any. As for an equivalent part, the launchpad uses the Samtec mentioned in its user's guide.

    >> There was no mating part for Samtec SHF-105-01-S-D-SM.

Looking at the Samtec page I see they don't seem to supply the individual mating connectors anymore, but only bundled in cables. The mating connector families are highlighted on my post ("catalog page which mentions it is mated to FFSD or FFTP series ").

    >>The JTAG connector on the custom board is a 10 pin Molex part with 2.54 mm pitch.

Is the 2.54mm pitch on both row and column or just on the rows? If the former, I suspect you will not be able to have a ribbon cable that is simultaneously compatible with both 1.27mm and 2.54mm column pitch connectors as they have different cable pitches: the 2.54mm connector uses 1.27mm cable and 1.27mm connector uses 0.625mm cable.

The alternative is to have a cable the same wire-to-wire pitch and a small adapter board with connectors of both types. A concept that is similar to what is shown in this pin adapter

As an additional place to look for cables, Digi-key seems to have a good selection.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Yes, I am planning on using FFSD-05-D-06.00-01-N on the EK-TM4C. Please let me know if this will not fit into U6. The custom board JTAG will have a 10 pin JTAG 30310-6002HB-ND that mates with the cable M3CCA-1018J. If this matches the boards, the cable ends can be soldered, and the EK can be used as a debugger. I will find out in a few days if this is feasible or not.

    Thanks,
    Priya

Yes, that looks like a good fit for the U6 connector.
