CCS/TMS320C6657: Problems with XDS 220 probe

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I have a C6657 dual core DSP, and am connecting it to a XDS 220 probe. The Code Composer cannot connect to the processor.

I also have an XDS 200 probe, and this one seems to connect without issue.

I am using USB for both of these. It looks like the XDS 220 has a port for external power supply, but I am not using it since this is (per the manual) only for connections not utilizing a USB port.

Has anyone else had this issue? Also, what is the power voltage needed for that external power supply port?

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't have a XDS220 Debug Probe to test it here, but what is the error you are getting? Also, what is the Code Composer Studio version, as well as the TI Emulators version?

Hi,

Thanks for sending the additional information. Error -180 is explained at the following link:
software-dl.ti.com/.../ccsv7_debugging_jtag_connectivity_issues.html

As you mentioned, the XDS220 has a specific power port and may need some additional configurations or setup. I recommend contacting Spectrum Digital for additional support.

Hi,

A friend tested his XDS220 with his C6657 EVM and reported a successful connection - this on CCSv6.2.0 and 7.3.0 for Windows.

Nothing special was required, apart from having to use two pin adapters to properly match the connections.

Therefore I can't think of any additional details that may have been missed, other than the possibility that your XDS220 may be at fault.

With this in mind, I would definitely try to contact Spectrum Digital to see if they have any additional ideas.

Sorry for missing your last reply. The adapters have part numbers:

The top adapter is this one:

The bottom adapter is part of the XDS560v2 STM Debug Probe and is sold separately as:
www.spectrumdigital.com/.../

This is what I had in hand, but the most straightforward solution for you is the following:

Hi,

thank you. In the meantime I figured out the problem.

It turns out we were using the ISolated version of the XDS220 (ISO).

this requires a 3.3V adapter not 5V. Also, this one wants a 100 ohm resistor on the TVref line if it is not 3.3V. These two items solved our problem.
