CCS/CODECOMPOSER: Cannot Load CC2640R2 Launchpad project in CCS Version: 7.3.0.00019

Part Number: CODECOMPOSER
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am running CCS 7.3.0.00019 in a Windows 10 VMware machine.  From the Resource Explorer I cannot "Download and Install"  the CC2640R2 Launchpad kit SW.  The red progress bar comes up at 10% and then disappears with no accompanying message.   I have been able to load the SimpleLink CC2640R2 SDK and the SDK BLE Example pack so I think the general setup is OK.

You are referring to the "CC2640R2 LaunchPad" node under Development Tools->Kits and Boards, correct?
If so, I see the same thing, however I'm not sure if that is supposed to be downloadable or not. I am checking with some experts and will get back to you when I have more information.

  • Mark,

I got confirmation that the Download button should actually not appear for content under Development Tools folder. Currently we only support downloading content from the Software folder. The fact that the button exists for the CC2640R2 Launchpad folder is a bug. I have filed bug # REX-1691 to track this issue for having the button removed.
  • Thank you for the response. I was away on vacation and just got back. now I get it (beginner with CCS). I am a little confused because I see a project zero under SimpleLink Academy but the Project Zero docs use the simple_peripheral project. I guess I will have to play with it to find out. Question: I assume that I can program the CC2640 Launchpad via the USB port. I purchased the Spectrum Digital XDS200 emulator for target programming. Is there a pinout chart or connection instructions for the Launchpad with the emulator?

The launchpad has an on-board XDS110 debugger, so yes you can debug by simply connecting the USB cable.

The Launchpad schematics etc are available from the Resource Explorer as well. If you type in the CC2640R2 Lauchpad in the filter box on the top left corner of Resource Explorer it should filter and show you all the relevant content for that kit. If you have further questions about pinout and connection details I would suggest asking in the Bluetooth low energy forum as the experts there should be able to help better with that.
