CCS/CCSTUDIO: Spectrum Digital XDS560v2 LC Traveler not detected on new Windows 10 machine

Part Number: CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Installed CCSV8.0.0.0016, with the Spectrum Digital option selected.  The following directory exists:  C:\ti\ccsv8\ccs_base\emulation\specdig.  In addition, under Help -> Installation Details -> Installed Software, Spectrum Digital Emulators V5.2.0.14 is listed.  I'm pretty sure everything is installed correctly.

When I connect the XDS560v2 to the computer, nothing happens.  You don't get that normal windows "Installing Drivers" popup you get when plugging in a device for the first time.  In the Windows Device Manager, the XDS560v2 is listed under Other Devices, but when I check the properties it doesn't have a driver loaded.

I've also attempted to user the configuration utility that comes with Spectrum Digital (SD560v2 Cnfg V5), but that also can't "see" the emulator.

The Windows 10 machine is from Dell, and has both USB3.0 and 2.0 ports.  I've tried both with no luck on either.

Suggestions?

  • Dean,

Our team has a selection of XDS560v2 Debug Probes (LC, STM and STM Traveler) and they all work fine under Windows 10 (all Dell machines).

However, since this OS has been updating quite at a regular pace, what is the exact version number you have? You can check its version by opening a command prompt and running "winver". We have been using this on both 1607 (14393.2189) and 1709 (16299.431) without a glitch. Next week I can try to update one of my machines to 1803 and see if the functionality is still intact.

Another detail is that you can try to reinstall the drivers - simply right-click on the driver and select the Update Driver Software... -->
Browse my computer for driver software --> and point to the directory below:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SpectrumDigital\Emulation\Drivers\amd64

If that does not work, my suspicion falls immediately on the integrity of the probe or the USB cable. That would require a replacement or a self repair.

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Hi Dean,

I'm using the same CCS version (8.0.0) with the same SD driver version (5.2.0.14) on Windows 10-64. I also have a Dell machine. My SD XDS560v2 LC Traveler seems to work fine.

It looks like your probe was not enumerated properly. You should see something like:

Since your issue appears to be specific to communication between the host PC and the debug probe, I would recommend contacting Spectrum Digital support directly to see if they have any further suggestions.

    Thanks

  • Running Windows 10 version 1803. Your suggestion to force the Update Driver Software worked. Windows 10 now correctly identifies it, and I can also use the SD560v2CnfgV5 utility. Thanks for your help.
