Where can I find out what this warning means? "unrecognized -- mapfile contents attribute:"
Do I need to be concerned since my code seems to run fine.
What does your link command look like? It seems that you are passing an unrecognized attribute to the link option --mapfile_contents. Please check your link command and also the reference for the --mapfile_contents and accepted attributes in the Assembly Language Tools/Linker Users Guide. Users Guides can be found here.
The warning should not affect your code, that option only controls the contents of the link map file.

Sorry I haven't followed this up.. I'm still getting the warning but don't know where within CCS5 to find what you are asking for in terms of what it is supplying as "link commands" or the "reference for the --mapfile_contents abd accepted attributes in the Assembly Language Tools/Linker Users Guide". CCS5 is a great compiler but in many ways it has TOO MANY OPTIONS and enough documentation to "sink a battleship" but documentation that is scattered everywhere forcing users to go on a hide and seek exercise to find simple answers to simple questions.

In CCS, look at the build console when you build your project to see what options are being passed to the linker. Basically everything after it says "Invoking Linker", and look closely at the --mapfile_contents option. The compare it with the accepted attributes that are listed in the Assembly Language Tools Users Guide for your device.

OK - I seem to be getting closer to the solution. Below is a C&P of the Build Console Linker output:

By looking at the "--mapfile_contents" entry above, the "filter" option following is the string "LCD2map" which doesn't coincide with any of the allowable filters specified in Section 7.4.15 of the MSP430 Assembly Language Tools Users Guide. That's exactly what the warning text is saying that it doesn't like the string "LCD2map". So the questions now are --- 1. How does the string LCD2map get put there? and 2. How do I change it from within CCS5?
OK -- I fixed the problem. I found the Project Properties entry for the --mapfile_contents option and indeed, the string LCD2map was there but I don't know how it got there. Anyway, I removed it, re-built my project, and the Warning message is now gone. Thanks for your help.
