Compiler/TCI6638K2K: Error while compiling project directly through makefiles. "Unable to open temp macro library"

There is no compiler option -J.  I presume you mean make -j number, which tells make to execute number of build commands at one time.

Does the problem occur only when using make -j?  Does it occur every single time on the same source file(s), or is it intermittent?  Are you using the TI ARM compiler, or the C6000 compiler?  What is the version of the compiler?

By J I meant enable parallel build
I can't tell if it happens without the parallel build, since our project is so large it is not realistic to run it sequential (and the problem happens only once a week or two, so it is something that will be difficult to test)
it happens every time on a different source file. Same library though, out of a few libraries in my project. All projects have the same settings but it is the largest project (number of files)

When you use assembler macros, the assembler needs to create a temporary file to process the macros. It is possible that if you have multiple assemblers running at once, two or more of them are trying to create a temporary file of the same name, clobbering each other's results. You may need to arrange the Makefile so that those assembly files are executed sequentially. You could accomplish this by passing them to the compiler (cl6x) all at once; the shell will process them one at a time.

I would very much like to see a test case which demonstrates the error you are seeing. This would be tough, given that the error occurs so infrequently. could you please describe how you are using the macros? Are you using macro libraries?

It is all but certain your problem is the same as the one discussed in this thread.  The ID for the problem is CODEGEN-2098.  You can look it up with the SDOWP link below in my signature.  The fix is not in any released C6000 compiler yet.  The fix will appear in versions 7.4.22 and 8.1.4.  Information about those releases can be found in the wiki article titled Production Compiler Releases.

The bug was fixed before 8.2.0 was created; 8.2.0 does not have the bug

We tried to use compiler 7.4.22 and we still get the same error:
Unable to open temp macro library : C:\Users\wfbuild\AppData\Local\Temp\tempTI2 - Aborting
It seemed that the bug fix in 7.4.22 didn't fix the issue

CODEGEN-2098 was indeed fixed in 7.4.22. From the name of your temp file, and from inspection of the toolchain code, I'm pretty sure this is a new bug with the same symptom. I've submitted CODEGEN-3571 to track this issue. I believe this bug only occurs when using linear assembly. The workaround is to disable parallel builds of linear assembly source files.

This bug has been resolved.  We were not actually planning on making more patches on the v7.4.x branch.  If you can move to the v8.1.x branch, a release is planned by the end of September that would include this bug fix.  Please let us know if this is feasible for you.  If not, we will put out one more patch on the 7.4.x branch and will have to determine when it can be scheduled

We have tried a few months ago to move to v8.1.x however the compiler kept on crashing during compilation of our code so we are reluctant to move to v8.1.x at this time. If/When we will attempt this again we would like it to be on the latest version which is currently v8.2.x, which will hopefully have all of these bugs fixed.

We would really appreciate the patch on 7.4.X

If the 8.1.x compiler is crashing, we'd love to see the test cases. Have you reported them on this forum?

I didn't report the issues, but i checked 8.2.1 now and the crash issues are all fixed. However I saw that the next fix for 8.2.x is only in end of November.
