Forum Post: Build .out file failed, but no error information.

I am trying to build the project am335x_sysbios_ink_sdk_1.0.0.8\sdk\examples\uartecho with CCS 5.3.

the out file not generated, and no imformation about the errors. here is console output:

Can anyone tell me how does this happen ?

Hello , I'm really new using this c2000 launchpad , i recently saw that matlab can generate code for this card , i'm trying to configure if but it seems that is not working every time i get this.

v1 is for the reference.

v2 and v3 has difference in "c_int00" section. v2 has both boot.obj and DSP28x_CodeStartBranch.obj, but v3 only DSP28x_CodeStartBranch. I suppose, that this is the same issue as with "strtol" and "memset". "_strtol" and "_memset" used by hexbuf.ob and xmodem.obj in Flash28_API section. I'll try your suggested workaround.

OK I've set my breakpoint prior to running and I can navigate around fine now. It's a PITA having to deal with that error continuously popping up though. I think we can probably close off this thread now.

Hmmm... that is interesting. The project is an ARM C/C++ project, and not a CCS project.

I didn't realize the difference between CCS ARM project and regular ARM C/C++ project. Anyway, most of our ARM projects are indeed ARM C/C++ project.

The same project can be built using the command line in CCSv5.1, so the question is, is this not supposed to work in CCSv5.4? If so, is there a way to build the project from command line?

I took this back. The DSP side project seems to build as expected.

Dear CCS team,

I have some questions with “trace”.

ETM is an ARM module and ETB is the buffer within ETM to store trace information in a non-invasive way, is it correct?

Therefore I presume an ARM processor or core with ETM and ETB alone already implemented the trace functionality, then is there still anything to do with the emulator? Because the trace information is stored within ETB, any entry-level emulator with the most basic functionalities should be able to retrieve them, then why do we still need “XDS560 Trace” ?

Or is “XDS560 Trace” emulator can be used to store (receive) trace data in real-time from the ARM processor, thereby increasing the storage from the original 4KB around (for my OMAP L138) to much larger? Is this why “XDS560 trace” is called?

However, in CCS’s target configurations the emulator’s frequency is only set to ~10MHz, and at most 35MHz, so how can this low speed device capture all program counters of an ARM core, in the case of OMAP L138 running at 300MHz?

The install failed when it tried to read some feature information from C:/Users/oromero/Desktop/CCS5.4.0.00091_win32/CCS5.4.0.00091_win32/featurerepo . First thing to check is whether the zip file was extracted correctly and maintained the same folder structure as the original zip file.

We have customers using CCS in the configuration you describe. There is some more information here regarding what files will be created outside the user's installation folder here. Most files created in the installing user's account are not critical to the operation of CCS. If specific functionality is needed, the required files can be copied over.

Forum Post: How many traces allowed simultaneously?

Hi,

In CCS when I tried to use TRACE, I find that many such conditions can be added, for example:

“Start Trace”
“End Trace”
“Trace in Range”
“Don’t trace in range”

For each of the above types of trace CCS allows adding more than one instance. Then comes a question: which one would be the active one?

For the particular case of “End Trace”, there must be an accompanying “Start Trace”, or else the capture won’t start; however for other types of conditions, adding multiple instances within each type, or even several coexisting unique instances of each type, could often easily lead to confusion or conflict. For example, if we mix addresses

START, RANGE_START, END, RANGE_END

one after another, it then looks pretty ill-defined.

Ultimately the number of different types of trace conditions, and the number of different instances within each type, would be determined by the design of the ARM ETM module. However I didn’t find explicit explanation on literatures for the above questions.

Could someone help?

Thank you for the test case. The 10.2 problem is fixed in the not yet released version 6.2.x compiler. The 10.1 problem is different enough from the others that I filed SDSCM00047274 in the SDOWP system for it. You can follow it with the SDOWP link below in my signature.

Have you tried using a new workspace? It should clear out the cache and force CCS to rediscover any components again.

If you are looking at line 76, where it sets XPCOM.RUNTIME, you can probably remove/comment that line from the pm file. That variable is no longer used.

Hello,

I built a sys/bios c6747 application and I would like to look at CPU load etc. Unfortunately my RTOS analyzer is greyed out (but RTA part is not). I don't want to use RTA. Is there a way to fix this? In these forums people have suggest re-install. I would like to avoid reinstalling CCS.

Hi Shashank,

if ccs v5.4 does not help you, then I would also move to suspecting the code. I say this because it almost looks like the memory might be protected. Do you have an eval board or other board you can use? This would help you verify. You could also first try loading a provided example but the erase memory issue might pop up again ... so this is a lesser suggestion

- the FET and JTAG connection which seem ok from what you post

- the hardware/software

Failing that I would next say to post to the msp/bluetopia teams.

Hi Jerry,

the default setting is normally only to load what is needed. Your code less than fills the device, hence only the amount of memory the code uses (basically to load the code) gets loaded. Many programmers (especially flash tools) will let you set fill values if you would prefer that ... however it is not normally necessary. Note things get erased before programming to clear the old data.

There is a .map file generated which shows you the exact breakdown of how much memory and where your code is.

I have a similar problem using CCS Version: 5.2.1.00018 when trying to connect to the BlackHawk XDS560v2 emulator on the TMDSEVM6678LE.

Always get the same error message

Error initializing emulator:

(Error -2083 @ 0x0)

Unable to communicate with the emulator. Confirm emulator configuration and connections, reset the emulator, and retry the operation.
(Emulation package 5.0.747.0)

The windows device manager says there is no driver installed and there doesn't appear to be a driver provided with the CCS installation. The BlackHawk website says the driver will be installed with CCS.

However the L3 clock is setup in the gel file and I cannot find anywhere in the technical reference manual that details that the GPMC clock is gated from the L3 clock to need enableing?
