LM5122 - About Dual Phase reference design of TINA TI model

Hi Team,

Our customer are evaluating the dual phase of LM5122 and make simulation of TINA TI.

However, this simulation does not work well…

Therefore, they need the dual phase design of TINA TI model.

I understand that you have the single phase of TINA-TI spice mode.

However, could you please send it if you have the dual phase reference design of TINA TI?

< customer requirements >

-Vin=12V(typ)

-Vout=48V

-Iout=around 8.5A (Pout=400W)

  • Hello Kanemaru-san,

The LM5122 device model is a complex model with multiple components around it and startup behavior takes long time to simulate. We currently do not have dual phase reference design for this component. The datasheet mentions dual phase as in Master-Slave configuration with phase synchronization through SYNCHIN_RT and SYNCOUT pins.

We are currently looking into it, but we will require some time to develop the reference schematic for dual phase version. Kindly give me some time and I will get back to you on this.

    Thanks!!

    Best Regards,
    Mahavir Jain.
  • Hi Team,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

How much time will that period take if you make the suitable model?

    I’d greatly appreciate your verification.

    Kanemaru

  • Hi Team,

I’m sorry to bother you while you are busy.

I confirmed simulation of the dual phase of LM5122 using the component of LM5122EVM-2PH.

However, this simulation did not perform switching normally.

Can this model not simulate the dual phase?

I would appreciate it if I could get a reply from you.

    Kanemaru

  • Hi Team,

Would you tell me about the progress on this matter?

I would appreciate your prompt reply.

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Kanemaru-san,

We have verified that the simulation you provided is not functioning as we would expect. We do believe that the dual phase operation is supported with this model and are checking into the issue. We will post a follow up as soon as we have more information.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Hi Britt-san,

Thank you for your kind support.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hello Kanemaru-san,

Please find attached the LM5122 dual phase simulation schematic. Please note that since two IC models are present in schematic which are switching in sync, the simulation time is very long for this.

Kindly let me know if you face any issues.

    Thanks!!

    Best Regards,

    Mahavir Jain.

  • Hi Mahavir-san,

    Thank you for the information.

    I have one more question.

Did you revise " TINA TI model of LM5122" for the dual phase?

Or did you change " External part (C, R, L, MOSFET, Diode)" only?

So, I would like to know the reason that was not able to carry out normal simulation.

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Hi Kanemaru-san,

The model was not changed internally for dual phase operation. It was developed with this feature already. But mainly due to circuit complexity, long simulation time and less application requirements, we focused on single phase operation. There were some netlisting issues that needed to debugged to make it work.

    Thanks!!

    Best Regards,
    Mahavir Jain.
  • Hi Mahavir-san,

    Thank you for the information.

We would like to simulate it on the following conditions.

    However, we can’t simulate it.

    [Conditions]

    -VIN=12V

    -VOUT=49V

    -IOUT=10A

    -L=11uH

    -fsw=around 230kHz (RT=39kohm)

    -Dual phase operation

Could you please let us know if you have any idea?

    I’d greatly appreciate your verification.

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Hi Mahavir-san,

Thank you always for your kind support.

What do you think about the present situation regarding this matter?

    I’d greatly appreciate your verification.

    Regards,

    Kanemaru

  • Hello Kanemaru-san,

We have been working on the application specs that you have asked for. We have a working design almost ready, but it takes almost two hours to simulate and currently it is not settling down to 49V output level. I have contacted product line support for this part and requested their feedback.

I am attaching the latest TINA-TI schematic for your reference, but kindly give me some more time to provide final schematic. We can take this offline. Kindly contact me on mahavir@ti.com and I will get back to you with further updates.
