TINA: function generator

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hi all,
I installed the new version,  9.3.150.4 SF-TI and fased with the problem about function genrator operation.
When I set 1MHz to the voltage generator, and then opened the function generator.
A parameters of the function generator displayed wrong number as below and I could not change the frequency.

Also, when I set 1kHz to the voltage generator and set 1.001MHz to the function generator,
the same thing is occurred.

My PC's OS is Win7PRO 64bit (Japanese version).

Could you please give me advice how to resolve this problem?

Regards,
Toshi

  • Toshi-san,

Why are you using the Function generator? You can access all of the same information from the signal source window. If you need to use the Function generator, you will need to understand how it is set up. In order to edit the Freq, Ampl, Offset, or Phase, you must first select the field you want to edit by clicking on the button and then clicking on the Edit button:

The display for 1MEG is odd since it uses the ME and G to denote MEG. If you edit the field where the G is to k, then you will see a display of kHZ. If you want, you can use the arrows to pick the digit you want to update and select them with the right/left arrow. Then use the up/down arrows to the right to update the value. You can also us the keyboard numbers when the field is highlighted. Remember to hit return after you enter the value. Check the Help contents for more information on the Function Generator.

It appears that you edited the Amplitude to 1.02kV as well and you have a 1V offset (DC 1V offset). You can edit these as well and change them to the proper values. You always use the Parameters window for the edits, not the value windows shown on the far right.

  • Thanks for you reply.

I am using TINA-TI for a long time.
    I would like to explain my problem more as below;

    My expectation is "1.000MHz".
After appearing a strange number "1MEGHz" and I tried to change the value of the parameter window or the Unit window, but TINA-TI returned the error.

I hope that my explanation will help your understanding

    Regards,
    Toshi

  • Toshi-san,

Your expectation of 1.000Mhz is incorrect. TINA-TI does not provide that in this device. It represents MHZ as MEGHz and the G falls into the units window. Unfortunately, if you try to change the numerical value with the G in the units, you will get GHz...

The error you got was because you changed the value to 0 or simply blanked out the parameter value. If you blank it out and put a 1 there, you will get 1Ghz. If you try to change the Unit window with the ME still in the parameter value, you will also get the error your reported. I would recommend that if you HAVE to use the function generator, you set the numeric value in the parameter field first, then set the Units field.

For example, if you set the parameter value to 2.1455 and then choose M in the units window, you will get:

so it looks like 2.1455 GHz, but the Freq window shows the MEG. Just a quirk with this instrument and how it represents MEG for MHz.

  • Thank you so much for your support.
I have returned 9.3 to the old version of 9.2, and this function generator works well.
The problem seems to be caused by modification from "M" to "MEG" at 9.3 version.

So I hope the updated version would be resolved this problem.

    Best regards,
    Toshi
