TINA/Spice/TINA-TI: I am unable to start TINA, at start-up this appears: "yyinit: File access error (output)".

Part Number: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hello.

I am trying to run the latest TINA in Windows 10, but I cannot.

First that start-up screen comes up and it seems like it should but then instead of opening the simulator a error message pops up saying: "yyinit: File access error (output)", and that's the end of the story.

I am completely worthless when it comes to programming on the level of operation systems and I am clueless as to what to do, I have searched online on that error but can't find anything.

Next I will try to find a older version and try that instead but still I really want to use V9.3.

I would of course appreciate greatly if anyone knows how to solve this and told me, but if not I would appreciate any suggestions for what to try or where to turn in order to get more info about this error or anything really.

Regards

  • It looks like TINA is using lex/yacc behind the scenes as an expression parser. It has been years since I used these, but it looks like the parser is having trouble opening a temporary file. Do you have administrator privileges on your machine?
  • Hi David,

On the web it's given that TINA will support Windows XP, 7, 8

If Windows-10,  OS have the option of changing .exe compatibility, please follow the below procedure.

    1. Right click on the .exe and go to the "Compatibility" tab.

    2. Check on the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

    3. Click on the drop down menu and select which OS compatibility you want. (In this case Windows 7)

    4. Click on Apply and OK

    5. Now install freshly in your system. (Make sure uninstall and delete the previously installed files)

Please let me know if this works.

    Regards,

    Bhushan

  • Hi David,

    Small correction in the option-1

    1. Right click on the .exe --> Click on "Properties" -->go to the "Compatibility" tab.

  • I had the same problem. TINA would only run with admin rights. The reason was that the user's working directory was created with admin rights during installation and that TINA could not write these when started as normal user. I simply renamed the original folder and created a copy of that renamed folder with the original name [such that the files/directories are created by the normal user].
  • I always feel stupid or rude when I ask a question which gets responses but manages to forget about the hole thing.

But in any case I can now use TINA 9, I never tried Bhushans suggestion(thank you for it though) and thus far I haven't tried Thorstens solution ether.
But I think it is safe to say that you(Thorsten)was correct in thinking it had to do with admin rights, because I installed the latest TINA again(which by the way have a read-me file that says that it is now windows 10 compatible) and tried as before to start it only to face the same problem, which was solved by right clicking the icon and choosing "run as administrator".

If that option is chosen it works as it should and since I am admin on this PC I simply went ahead and right clicked on the TINA.EXE and chose properties, and under the compatibility I marked the option "run this program as an administrator" so I don't have to keep opening it with right-click & "run as admin.".

I did note that the compatibility mode do exist, I didn't know about that feature.

    So this all went well.

Thank you very much for your answers.

    Regards
