TINA/Spice/UCC28950: Novice questions about TINA TI Spice

Part Number: UCC28950
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hello All,

I am new to TINA TI Spice and I have a couple of questions:

Does anyone know where to find information on the analysis parameters. I tried reading through the help provided in the program, but it was very confusing. I couldn't find ABSTOL anywhere in the list. I did find the DC absolute current error (ABSTOL). However they define ABSTOL in a way I have never seen on any other SPICE program:

"Represents the absolute change of the currents between two DC iterations. For the successful convergence of DC analysis, this change must be less than the specified value

The default value is 10-6 A ."

ABSTOL is normally defined as "Resets the absolute current error tolerance of the program. The default value is 1 picoamp" Can anybody explain this to me?

Another question I have concerns the following error message:

Warning: Wire is zero length or circular

Anybody know what this means? I checked the entire schematic to find a discrepancy in the schematic wiring and couldn't find one. Does it matter?

Thanks,

Chuck

  • Chuck,

There is a section in the help pages that gives some information about the parameter names that TINA uses which are different than other simulators (Help-->Contents enter analysis in the search line. The first entry should give you the information you need). ABSTOL is listed as the DC Absolute current error in the Simulation Parameters Table (this can be found in the help pages). I'm not going to get into semantics about the definition or how it is explained, however, the default in TINA is 1e-9, not 1e-6. This can be seen in the Analysis-->Set Analysis Parameters... feature. If there is only a few parameters displayed, click on the Hand symbol (Bottom right of the window) and select View All.

The error message you referred to is telling you that there is a wire (or a point of wire) that is not connected to anything and may be underneath/beside the node you were actually intending to connect to. When the ERC window pops up with this error, simply right click on the error message in the window and the error should be highlighted in the schematic. You may not see it, but it is selected. If you want to remove it, simply right click on the mouse (in the schematic window, not the ERC window) and select Delete while it is highlighted and this should remove it from the GUI.

Does it matter? Usually, no it does not effect anything, however, I'd just get rid of it to avoid the ERC window...

A lot of TINA-TI's features are presented in several videos found here:

I hope this information answers your question. Thanks for your interest in TINA-TI.
