Webench/LM25116: MOSFETs for LM25116

Part Number: LM25116

Tool/software: Webench

Hi there,

Why webench design LM25116 with 2 different MOSFETs?

For example: in chip's datasheet and evaluation board there is only one type of MOSFET.

Why there is a different and what is the right thing to do?

thanks,

Ron.

  • Hi Ron,

The MOSFET selection chooses the best combination of high-side and low-side FET based on the optimization setting. In the design, the setting gives different weight to minimize cost , effect on efficiency (power dissipation), and/or footprint size. Often this results in unique parts selected for the high-side and low-side. You may be able to use a lower cost FET or one with better efficiency at your operating conditions.

The right thing to do depends on your application. You may not see a performance improvement or cost advantage by choosing different FET part numbers. Also, it would be easier for inventory management to source one FET part number instead of two part numbers.

  • Thank you Kevin!

Why Webench choose to leave VCCX pin unconnected while in the datasheet its says if VCCX not in used I should connect it to ground?

    What should I do?

    Thank you,

    Ron.
