WEBENCH® Tools/TLV61220: Cannot create simulation of TLV61220

Part Number: TLV61220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61220,

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

The product page says to download the SPICE model from WEBENCH, but WEBENCH doesn't include the TLV61220 or TPS61220.

They are recommended by power quick search:

But when I click "WEBENCH Design" they are not listed.

If I launch WEBENCH from the product page itself, it seems like my values are ok:

but then it says it can't work because of current limit:

It's calculating an Iout of 204 mA instead of the 15 mA I specified?

  • Hi Jonathan,

The 0.204A value being displayed is the peak switch current:  Ipeak = Iavg + Ipp/2, where Iavg is the average inductor current and Ipp is the inductor peak-to-peak ripple. Because these are boost converters, the peak switch current can be significantly higher than the output current Iout (15mA). You can refer to this other forum thread that discusses this in some detail.

WEBENCH Power Designer is saying the conditions you've entered are causing the peak switch current to exceed recommended datasheet limits for proper device operation.

However, I see that the inductor selection routine for these devices could be amended to help avoid the issue. I am looking into this and will get back to you with updates in a day or two.

    Regards,
    Kris

  • Hi Jonathan,
We will be releasing updates to the TPS61220 and TLV61220 inductor selection routine in WEBENCH Power Designer on Friday, after which you will be able to create designs at your intended operating point. I will post again here once that happens.

  • Jonathan,

The update was completed yesterday. Please try creating those designs again.

    Thanks,
    Kris
