WEBENCH® Tools: WEBENCH Licence

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I posted a question on 27-Apr-2017 and sent a mail to wbse@ti.com on 3-May-2017 requesting support for a WEBENCH licence for Altium but have had no response to date.

How do I get support?

  • Hi Martin,

    We have discontinued the manual distribution of license since 2014.

    Please update the WEBENCH extension to latest version and use WEBENCH->Activate WEBENCH Altium Connector to get a license for WEBENCH extension.

    Please follow instructions provided in step 5 of latest WEBENCH Altium Connector installation guide  to activate the WEBENCH extension.

    Regards,

    Pradeep

  • Hi Pradeep,

    I have tried this many times. Altium reports that WEBENCH is activated when I select WEBENCH->Activate WEBENCH Altium Connector, but this has not been done. I have tried uninstalling WEBENCH addon and reinstalling, remembering to clear settings in the registry before reinstalling but this did not work either.

    When I then run a simulation WEBENCH keeps reporting that there is no licence.

    I have followed Altium instructions to the letter bt this has no effect.

    If the Node_Licence is deleted from C:\ProgramData\Altium\Altium Designer {xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\Extensions\WEBENCH\WBSE then Altium creates a new licence file when WEBENCH->Activate WEBENCH Altium Connector is selected, this now seems to work...

    ...spoke too soon. I got to run the simulation once, this repeatedly reset the analysis with an error message "Aborted by user" so had to perform three fingered salute. When I closed the application and restarted the simulation would not run, simply reporting "Invalid Node Locked Licence for host..."

    Also, during the simulation run, it was reported that the encrypted spice file could not be found, even though this is placed in the project file along with all of the other simulation files.

    Regards,

    Martin

  • Martin,

    Thanks for sharing details. Can you also share the Altium Version which you are using?

    Can you also confirm that you are using latest WEBENCH connector version 1.0.0.65 by clicking on WEBENCH extenstion (Navigate DXP->Extensions & Updates->Installed to locate WEBENCH extension)

    Did you export the design which you are simulating from WEBENCH or did you create it by yourself? What errors are you getting while simulating in the message section. Can you include that. If you can share the design itself, i can look at it and suggest the fix.

    I tested the WEBENCH extension with Altium Designer Version 16 and 17 and did not get any error or issues. It seems the issue is with the design itself and not with the WEBENCH extension.

    Regards,
    Pradeep

  • Pradeep,

    Altium version 17.0.10, 1.0.0.65

    There are two issues here. The original file that I am trying to simulate is contained in the zip Fred (03-05-2017 09-26-21).zip, this runs for one second and then aborts, restarts for one second and then aborts again, repeatedly.

    The second issue is with a TI WEBENCH generated circuit that reports as per the image below, the design is found in webench_design_4675573_7_ad14_sim (11-05-2017 08-30-55).zip. This has generated an error message Error: .include file "pspice://../MAIN_BLOCK_CIRCUIT.FILTER_STAGE_1_SIM.A1_S1.WB_AMPLIFIER.enl" could not be opened.

  • Martin,

    Please find attached the WEBENCH exported design for simulating closed loop frequency response. Its working fine.

    webench_design_4675573_7_ad14_sim (5-11-2017 12-58-09 AM).zip

    Here is the output.

    Pradeep

  • Pradeep,

    not sure how much you know about electronics but the output is over 100dB down for a unity gain amplifier configuration, this is far from correct. We have done bench testing and the plot below represents real world measurements.

    here is a plot from TI WEBENCH online for the same circuit;

    and an example from FilterPro;

    Pradeep,

    after running WEBENCH for a single simulation, Altium/WEBENCH has overwritten the Node_Licence file and the simulator will not run.

    I have copied the node licence again to C:\ProgramData\Altium\Altium Designer {CB9B6E48-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\Extensions\WEBENCH\WBSE and the following error was reported;

  • Martin,

    I am still not able to reproduce the issues at my end on licensing. As you have confirmed today, that you are able to run simulation without any issues. So that's good news.

    Regarding the results, there was an issue with the AC source connection getting swapped. If you see the netlist (nti) file you will notice the Vin and 0 are not as we see in schematic.

    Vsignal 0 VIn  DC 2.5 SIN(2.5 1 1000 0 0) AC 1 0  (Wrong)

    As  per the schematic it should be

    Vsignal VIn 0  DC 2.5 SIN(2.5 1 1000 0 0) AC 1 0  (Correct)

    The issue was with port map of this AC source, that i have fixed. Please find attached the design and here are the results.

  • In this reply when i said its working fine, i meant that there are no error messages as the issue was with running the simulation successfully. without any netlist errors. However the results are wrong due to Vsignal source pins getting swapped. Once we fix the pin mapping issue the results are correct.
  • Pradeep,

    I am somewhat confused, the complete model was generated by online WEBENCH so how come the signal generator was incorrectly wired? is this something that I need to check with every WEBENCH generated circuit?

    Regards,
    Martin
  • Martin,

    You don't need to check for this issue.

    We are working on fixing the issue in WEBENCH generated design. It will be released soon.

    Regards,
    Pradeep
