WEBENCH® Tools/TPS61170: Exported Board File is Blank

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

When making a design with the TPS61170 on Webench, I am having trouble exporting layout files. I have attached the zip file and you can find the Cadence .brd file that is blank.

Please let me know if this is an issue you see as well or if there is something I need to do differently.

    I try it just now. As I only install Altium designer in my computor, so I download a Altium designer version and open it succeefully.

    I suggest you following the PCB layout guideline in the DS or in the UG, acturally, the pcb layout in the Webench is refer to the EVM board.

    Hello Helen,

    I have also tried it with Altium. The export to Altium works but the export to Cadence does not. I will be sure to follow the datasheet PCB guidelines but I was hoping to be able to export to Cadence in order to give my customer a good starting point.

    Please let me know when the export to Cadence is fixed.

    Hi Reed,

    Thanks for the update.

    I suggest you show the 3D picture to the customer in stead of the PCB. The PCB layout in the Webench is not so compact. I think a 3D model is also OK!

    Hi  Reed Kaczmarek,

     The exports are working fine for TPS61170.

    We need to follow the below steps to open the Allegro board file :

    1.      Right click on the batch file (2017-09-01_12-21-21) and select Open.

    2.       Click on Run in the pop up window.

    3.      Select allegro PCB tool.

    4.      Choose Yes when the below shown pop-up windows appear. ( Please note, this pop up window appear multiple times and we need to choose Yes everytime)

    5.       Once the script runs successfully, we can see the board file in the same folder. ( This process will take 5 to 10 min )

    Hello,

    Thank you for the detailed instructions. On step 1, when I right click and open - I receive the below error and it does not continue.

    I had my customer try as well as we saw the same error.

    Do you have an idea of why this error is popping up?

    Hi Reed Kaczmarek,
    Can you please let us know which version are you using?

    We tested in Allegro 16.5 and 16.6 versions and the script run was successful and we were able to see the board file.

    Installing the Hotfix could solve the issue.

    Hello Janardhan,

    On my system I do not have Cadence but I want to be able to open the board file using the Allegro Free Physical Viewer 17.2.

    The Physical Viewer is a tool I have used many times and as long as there is a valid .brd file I am able to open it and see the layout. Unfortunately, the .brd is blank and since the batch file does not run it stays blank.

    My customer who is also seeing the issue does have Cadence (I am not sure what version).

    Hi Reed Kaczmarek,

       We ran the script and the board file is in the attached folder. Please let us know if this works.

    webench_board_exchange_design_1235539_50_Allegro.zip

    We have used Cadence Allegro 16.5 and 16.6 versions with Hotfix installed and we didn't see any issue.

    Please check with full version with hotfix installed if possible.

    Thank you for sending over the correct .brd file - this is going to be helpful.

    Could you provide me some information about downloading "Hotfix" for Cadence? Since I do not have Cadence I am not familiar with this.

    Hi Reed Kaczmarek,
    Cadence / Cadence Channel Partner will provide the hotfix.
    Cadence package consist of three things:
    1. Base Release
    2. Updates
    3. Hotfix
    Base release is the first release by cadence of any specific tool... after using this tool if we find some bugs and they update that then releases the update release and finally hot fix after all know bugs are removed.
