WEBENCH® Tools: Webench: Altium Activation Code

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I have installed Altium-17 tool and also installed the WEBENCH in Altium as per installation guide. But at the activation it give message that WEBENCH Altium connector is already activated. So it does not go to the myTI page. Due to this i am unable to get the activation code. So need your support that how to get activation code.

  • Hi Rajesh,

If the WEBENCH Connector is already activated, you can get the activation code from Altium Designer itself by navigating to DXP->Preferences. Here is the snapshot. Can you confirm that you see following screen in your machine? If this is the case you need activation code from TI website.

    Regards,
    Pradeep

  • Hi Pradeep,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have attached the snapshot shot of Altium preference. In this snapshot the WEBENCH Activation code is not present.

    Regards,

    Rajesh Maurya

  • Rajesh,

Thanks for the confirmation. Can you check and remove if you have any file in WBSE Installation location with name as node_license?

    c:\ProgramData\Altium\Altium Designer {YOUR GUID}\Extensions\WEBENCH\WBSE\node_license

You should be able to activate the connector after that. Please let us know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Pradeep
  • Hi Pradeep,

As per your suggestion i have removed the node_license file from that location. Then restart the Altium and try to Activate the WEBENCH through Altium toolbar. But again it say that it is already activated. After this process i saw that the file which i have removed is again auto generated at that location. This delete and regenerate process repeated 2-3 time. Due to this I am unable to get the activation code from TI.

    Regards,

    Rajesh

  • Rajesh,

From your message, its obvious that connector is activated. You don't need to activate.

The activation key is in node_licence file.

You can try downloading a design from WEBENCH Power Designer and running simulation in Altium using WBSE.

  • Process of istallation.docxHi Pradeep,

I have re-install the Altium and selected all the option of Altium feature at the first page of Altium installation. After installation the process of WEBENCH installation is captured in attached document.

Please see the document and suggest that is I have missed/done wrong any process for installation of WEBENCH.

I have downloaded different-2 schematics from TIWEBENCH and tried to simulate but it gives error as attached document.

    Regards,

    Rajesh

  • HI Rajesh,

As per our conversation, we found that your documents folder is in D: and that is causing issue in getting the license file. I have provided you the license file as well as instructions which need to be updated in your system. As we have seen with the proper license file you are able to use the tool. Therefore i am marking this thread resolved.

I have noted this use case and we will address this issue in future release of the WEBENCH Altium Connector.

    Pradeep
  • Hi Pradeep,

I have tried to use WEBENCH in other computer by defining "MY Document" folder in C:\ drive but got same problem which i am facing.

Is there any update from your side?

    Regards,

    Rajesh

  • Rajesh,

Following up on our conversation today, i am listing the steps needed to install WEBENCH Connector on a machine with no My Documents folder in C:.

Step 1: Before installing the WEBENCH Extension, close Altium Designer 17

    1. Open registry editor by typing regedit.exe in windows start menu:
    2. Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    3. Note the value of Personal (copy it on notepad)
    4. Set Personal to %USERPROFILE%\Downloads
    5. Save and Close

    Step 2:

    1. Open Altium Designer.
    2. Download and install WEBENCH Connector
    3. Activate WEBENCH Connector.
    4. Close Altium Designer.

    Step 3:

    1. Open registry Editor:
    2. Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    3. Set the value of Personal from notepad)
    4. Save and close.

We will fix this issue in future release of WEBENCH Connector.

Following update from your side that this solution works for you, I am resolving this issue.

    Regards,
    Pradeep

  • Hi Pradeep,

Thank you very much for your valuable support. After your suggested setting the WEBENCH start to simulate.

But now we have one more query. If we modify the exported circuit from TI WEBENCH using schematic symbol from library of Altium (miscellaneous Devices.Intlib) the simulation is not running.

I have replaced one resistor with Altium's Resistor to modify the circuit. Please suggest that is it OK to modify with Altium's inbuilt library or we have to create subcircuit model of components as per our requirement.

    Regards,

    Rajesh

  • Hi Rajesh,

It is ok to replace the subckt resistor with Altium resisor as long as it has simulation models.

Can you share the exact error message?

Will it be possible for you to package your Altium Project and share with us so that we can look in to the issue.

    Regards,
    Pradeep

  • Step_to_simulation.docxGenerated data.zipHi Pradeep,

I am attaching the snapshot and resulted message of circuit simulation by editing parts with Altium's inbuilt library.

    Regards,

    Rajesh

  • Rajesh,

I looked at the word doc, and log files. The issue is resistor is defined using a Generic model RES which is not in built model of WBSE.

Line #24 in the netlist (.nti) file.

    RLoad 0 NetILoad_1_2 10 RES

It should be in PSPICE syntax. Please refer to Altium manual for pspice syntax.

    RLoad 0 NetILoad_1_2 model_name 10

    .MODEL model_name  RES [model parameters]

In order to fix the issue you should fix the generic editor.  Given that there are no model parameters specified i assume that Iyou want to use default register model. In order to instantiate that you can simply use Resistor. Here is snapshot.

With this change you will be able to netlist the register as following

    Rload_AD 0 NetILoad_2 1K

It will simulate without any issues.

Please note that WEBENCH Connector uses PSPICE syntax for netlisting. If  you define any model, please refer to altium docs or forum on how to use PSPICE syntax in Altium.

    Regards,
    Pradeep
