WEBENCH® Tools/LM25085: Request for custom/extended WEBBENCH ranges

I am curious about using the LM25085 outside the output current range that is specified in the WEBBENCH "Customize" options. As far as I can see, there is no reason that IC couldn't be used for an even larger load than 10A, so I would like to use the designer to investigate. I haven't found a tool that is so comprehensive and fast -- especially with the new redesign!

How are the range limits for each WEBENCH design enforced (specified by TI?), and is it possible to adjust them, perhaps on a temporary/per-user level? Or run a local version? Maybe there's a workaround already. Or I'm missing something in the datasheet and 10A is an appropriate limit.

Hi Paul,

In the datasheet, Ioutmax is set to 10A and the Webench follows this limit.

Please find the Ioutmax limit in datasheet below. For more information on Ioutmax limit, please view Overview section in datasheet page 11.

Hi Kiran,

Thanks for your assistance! OK, I read that as a recommendation but not necessarily the electrical limit (also, I know some good PFETS!) But that does explain why WEBBENCH sets it to 10A max (and it is that way on the product page too). Curious though, is there a way for users to go outside those ranges (e.g. if this comes up on another design)?

The next available IC to do the job (LM5175) has BOM cost 4x this one, for only 2x increased output (for my application). And I think my application could use multiple LM25085 since I really have 8 identical loads I can split it any way.

We stick to the datasheet limits and do not go out of those ranges in the tool today.
