DLPDLCR2010EVM: DLPDLCR2010EVM camera trigger/sync information

Part Number: DLPDLCR2010EVM

Hello TI Community,

Thank you,

Zach

  • Hello Zach,

I would recommend utilizing our DLP2010EVM-LC instead of the DLPDLCR2010EVM. This new EVM utilizes our newly released DLPC3470 which is intended for structured light applications. It contains both input and output triggers and more control over the DMD (more accurate pattern display at faster rates). The display EVM is not intended for structured light applications.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Hello Kyle,

Thank you for your reply. I am aware there is a newer LC version of the 2010EVM using the DLPC3470 controller chip and intended for structured light applications however this is not the hardware on hand. Getting VSYNC from the 3010EVM was straightforward and I was hoping this would be the case for the 2010EVM. Is it possible to get VSYNC from the 2010EVM boards?

    Thank you,

    Zach

    Hello Zach,

Could you confirm which test point you were using on the DLP3010EVM?

There is a Vsync signal you can find looking at the reference schematic for the DLP2010 at www.ti.com/.../tida-00325. However, there isn't a specific test point. R64 on the main board could be used as long as you are going through the ITE front end though.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Kyle,

The link below is an earlier post and addresses the 3010EVM VSYNC.  VSYNC was available on TP2 after a firmware update.

For the 2010EVM I am hoping there is a similar solution.  The signal on R64 appears to have the correct timing (~1.8V P-P, ~17ms, assuming it should be similar to the 3010EVM) but the the signal is not a clean square wave seen on the 3010EVM.  This signal may work but I will have to try before I know for certain.  I soldered a wire to R64 to get at it on the side away from the chip.  Maybe tapping in between R64 and the chip is a better location.    Do you have any other thoughts?

    Thank you,

    Zach

    Hi Zach,

I was just able to confirm that test point 2 on the DLP2010EVM will also output the VSYNC signal. Hopefully that works for you.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Hi Kyle,

TP2 was the first thing I tried before writing to the forum. I do not see a signal on TP2. Firmware for the projector was downloaded from the TI site yesterday and uploaded along with new splash images. I assume the while the signal may be available on TP2 the firmware does not support it. This was the case with the 3010EVM. Is it possible to get firmware that supports a VSYNC output for the 2010EVM?

    Best regards,

    Zach

    Hello Zach,

I did see it when I tested it on my EVM. Can you confirm you were inputting external video while measuring TP2?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Kyle,

There is no signal when the projector module is first powered up and there is no signal while inputting video while measuring TP2 on the main board.  Attached is a screen shot of the software and firmware versions.

    Thank you,

    Zach

    Hello Zach,

Thank you for confirming the version. That is odd you are not seeing the VSYNC signal. I double checked on my board an I see a reliable ~2V pulse every 1/60 seconds (my input framerate).

Could you confirm you are measuring TP2 on the Main Board? Also could you upload a screenshot of the "Video Information" section of the GUI. Lastly please confirm you had no other hardware/software modifications to your board. The only other suggestion I have at the moment is to try reflashing the firmware.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    Kyle,

After reflashing the EVM with recently downloaded firmware there is now a clean VSYNC signal on TP2. However, after using the flash update function in the GUI to add new splash images to the recently downloaded firmware VSYNC disappears. If the the unmodified firmware is uploaded again VSYNC is back. There appears to be an issue that wipes out VSYNC when I update the splash images. Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Zach
