DLP2010: Strange behavior: moved like horizontal-slide about 2 pixels frequently

Guru 10235 points
Part Number: DLP2010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3435, TEST2

Hello, TI Experts,

Our customer sent us an question about DLP2010 & DLPC3435.

They found strange behavior like below;

(Please, refer attached 3pages-PDF.)

   - The projection image seems to be moved like horizontal-slide about 2 pixels frequently.

   - The strange behavior is found in 5 systems of 114 their production systems.

   - They also checked that the input signal timing to DLPC3435 such as tp_hsw, tp_hbp and pclk are correct.

Question:

   Do you have same experience?

We would appreciate if you tell us how to solve this problem.

Best regards,

  • Matusan,

    Can you please provide your input timing specification? Thanks.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your prompt reply.

    I really appreciate your help.

    We can get the detail from the customer as below;

    - They don't use DLPDLCR2010EVM;

    - They found strange behavior with their custom board.

    - They input image to RGB888 parallel Interface of DLPC3435 as below.

         - Resolution:848x480 pixel

         - Frame rate:60fps

    - They sent us the detail timing information chart. (please refer attached pdf (page 4) )

    I'd like to summarize of the pdf.

    page1:Test1 result (NG)

         They input small checker pattern image to DLPC3435.

         They found strange behavior such as moving like horizontal-slide about 2 pixels frequently.

    page2:Test2 result(NG)

         They input cross image to DLPC3435.

         They also found strange behavior such as moving like horizontal-slide about 2 pixels frequently.

    page3:Test2 result(OK case)

         They input cross image with anti-aliasing to DLPC3435.

         Moving like horizontal-slide behavior seems to be stopped.

    page4:

         They provide the detail timing information of RGB888 parallel Interface of DLPC3435.

    Are there any clue/restriction of conversion process from RGB888-input-data to DLP-mirror control sequence in DLPC3435?

    (They think strange behavior tend to be observed by special bit pattern input image such as Test2 result.)

    We would appreciate to continue to investigate the problem.

    P.S. They provide us short movie (.avi) for test result.

           If you send the private e-mail, we can also provide them.

    Best regards,

  • Hello,

    Thank you very much for your kindness.

    I really appreciate your help.

    Our customer is waiting for TI's feedback.

    We would appreciate if you tell us your situation.

    Are there any clue for this problem?

    Best regards,

  • Matusan,

    Thank you for your patience.

    The artifacts you are seeing likely due to image processing algorithms running on the system. These image processing algorithms perform dither operations on the image, but since your image is extremely high frequency it is causing image artifacts to occur.

    This issue may be resolved by altering the system to run a reduced dither noise sequence. Please accept my friend request on E2E so that I may assist further with this.
