DLPDLCR3010EVM: Guidance with integration of the EVM onto a wearable, glasses-like arrangement

Part Number: DLPDLCR3010EVM

My project involves integration of the DLP 3010 onto a wearable glasses like arrangement. I wanted to know if I can test that out using the DLPDLCR3010 EVM. To elaborate, will I be able to use this evaluation module and display video from an external camera onto the DLP 0.3 720 DMD integrated onto a pair of glasses?

  • Hello Monish,

Welcome to E2E forum and Thanks for showing your interest in DLP Technology.

I have few question before providing the suggestions :

How are you planning to integrate the DMD on to glasses ?

Have you also checked the user guide of this EVM ? it will give you an idea of each component in EVM like optical Engine, controller and DMD size.

    Thanks,
    Navneet
  • Hi Navneet,

    To answer your questions:

    1. We intend to integrate two DMDs in front of both lenses on a pair of glasses. Much like the wearable smart glasses out there ( Google glass, Kopin's White pearl etc ). We do not have a very clear idea or know how to do this and I will be glad if you can provide any helpful inputs for this as well.

    2. I did go through the guide briefly but I needed certain specific questions answered. Namely:

    - Will we be able to test the form and functionality of what we're trying to do using the EVM? ( Taking feed from a camera and displaying in onto a pair of DMDs mounted on a pair of glasses )

    - Is there any specific software/hardware tool needed to configure and use the EVM for this purpose? Specifically, how easy is it to use the EVM for our purpose?

  • Monish,

If I understand your target application correctly (near-eye display), you may best benefit from reviewing our application note and blog post associated with this topic:

    www.ti.com/.../dlpa051a.pdf
    e2e.ti.com/.../three-ways-dlp-technology-can-enable-augmented-reality-experiences

The application note should give you some starting information. I hope this helps.

  • Hi Phillipe,

Thanks for the material. It has definitely given much more clarity than I had earlier.

You're right. We intend on using a pair of such displays for a near eye display based application. Is there some way I can get direct guidance on using the EVM and integrating the DLP microdisplay? For instance, is there a technical team I can reach out to, via a hotline?

  • Monish,

You should review the reference design associated with this EVM for assistance in developing your custom design:

You should also consider contacting the TI Design Network for assistance with special case system designs (such as for wearable displays):

    I hope this helps.
