DLPLCR6500EVM: Controller/DMD incompatible error

Straight out of the box, I have received a controller/DMD incompatible error. I have tried some of the things suggested in other posts, like updating the firmware, restarting, etc. Nothing has worked, the issue persists. I purchased my kit from Digital Light Innovations, if that matters. All of my LED lights are as they should be, and my window looks just like the image posted here (but with v5 firmware):

Hi Michael,

Did you try updating FW from FW tab. Is it working? If not install boothold jumper J11, power cycle kit. Then again try updating FW.
Please do above steps.

I did as follows:

1. Uploaded DLP900PROM-6500-v5.0.0-OOB

2. Restarted, error still persisted.

3. Powered off and installed boothold jumper J11.

4. Powered on and repeated step 1.

5. Restarted, error still persists.

Hi Michael,

There is a debug UART port J6 on kit. Please provide the output of this port right from board reset. Also please remove boothold jumper.
This output should print reason for DMD incompatible error.

I am working on getting my hands on the necessary cable and transceiver. Will the GUI read out the error? Does it matter if the input from the debug pins to the computer is USB or serial?

I have ordered the cables and transceiver needed for your suggestion. In the meantime, I managed to get the error to go away by using an older version of the GUI to update my firmware and reset. However, no pattern is displayed on the DMD, neither ones I create in pattern on the fly mode, or the pattern that is supposed to be displayed upon startup. This leads me to believe that the issue is still present. The software seems to be doing all the right things, does it sound like an issue with the DMD itself?

Hi Michael,

Sorry for delayed response. I somehow missed this thread. You can use any USB-UART bridge to read the output on debug port.

May I know which FW file you have programmed in the kit ? Also please post the GUI screenshot when kit is connected to the PC.

Yes. A power supply in the DMD board was malfunctioning. We sent it for repair and now everything works great. Thanks!
